Trouble "claiming" server

Server Version#: 1.21.4.4054
Player Version#: playing through web, phone, etc.

I have plex media server installed on a headless ubuntu machine in my closet. Recently it was having trouble showing the media files, and so I uninstalled it, removed the library files, and reinstalled it. Now when I log in via the IP address it says I need to claim the server, and when I do that it just spins for a while and fails.

I’ve tried signing out, signing out of app.plex.tv, loading a new incognito tab, and signing in with ?security=0, and there was no difference. I don’t see any logs when I go to “console” in Plex’s settings.

Any thoughts on what might be up?

Thanks!

Try this:

When I run that script I encounter an error:

******** ERROR ********
We failed to authenticate towards plex.tv
Please check username and password, as well as network access

this is with the correct username, password, and IP address for the box. When I’m on the box and I ping google.com, I get responses.

OS you are using?

Notes for posterity:

I’m on OS X on my laptop, plex is on a Debian system in my closet.
I went back to the plex web interface again and tried one more time to claim the plex media server instance. This time it worked.
