Thoughts on switching from Windows Server to Shield

I’ve been running a Plex server on Windows for over 5 years now…I’ve never really had any problems with it but last night the SSD I run the OS on decided to die so I will need to rebuild it.

I’m still going to keep the server running Windows (for other purposes), but was thinking that maybe I should get an NVIDIA Shield and use that for streaming and hosting my content.

My old Windows server has decent enough horsepower (an older i5, 28GB of RAM, etc.) but for transcoding it has to use CPU just due to not having a decent video card.

My content is on a couple of external drives (USB and network drive) so accessing them from the Shield shouldn’t be an issue. Any big advantages/disadvantage to either solution?

Thanks!

Thanks @OttoKerner for sharing my post, I made the switch a week ago and haven’t noticed a difference, so I guess that’s saying something going from a high-end PC to a Shield TV.
