Being a Gen z fellow, I have an extensive music collection ripped from cd’s and vinyl and have used Tidal mostly to discover new music. It’s a real shame, but with no plex integration, I will not be renewing my subscription to Tidal separately.
My concern here is not the integration with tidal itself, but the support for music in general, we already saw what happened with the support for photos
Im kinda pissed about it honestly, the only reason i pay for plex pass is to use plexamp instead of the tidal app. Guess ill be canceling my plexpass now. Anyone know if plex does refunds? I signed up for a year in july but it seems stupid to pay for a service i cant use.
I have (literally just now) cancelled my (direct) Tidal subscription and sent a help centre ticket explaining that their removal of this integration is the reason why. Text below if anyone wants to also do that.
Doubt it’ll change anything, but I think it’s important when something like this happens you make it clear why you aren’t happy with a service.
I used the “I’m a subscriber and I have a question” category. Maybe I should’ve asked for a reason and made it an actual question? ![]()
Hi folks, I have thoroughly enjoyed your service since discovering it after the nonsense with Spotify and their tolerance for absurd podcast hosts. I think you do great work and I like your music quality offering as a differentiating feature.
That said, one of the main reasons I’ve been subscribed is the ability to seamlessly fill holes in my music library. I use plex -. Plexamp, actually - and having a seamless integration between music I physically have and do not has been AMAZING.
Today I’ve been advised that integration is ending and that it was a decision on your part. Accordingly I babe unsubscribed and will stop recommending your service to my friends as an alternative to Spotify.
Despite some challenges I’ve had with the integration, its utility has been immeasurable. I am very sad to see it go, especially as it leaves me in the lurch having to choose between music I own and music I don’t.
Does this mean Tidal is canceling their Connect service too? Otherwise I don’t see why they would cancel an arrangement with Plex – we’re paying for a full Tidal subscription either way, and like many of us have noted the Plex integration adds a lot of value that the Tidal app doesn’t provide. I don’t see any real difference (from Tidal’s perspective) between a customer who plays Tidal tracks via Plex vs via a Tidal Connect device, since both use cases bypass the official Tidal app (I think? I don’t actually have a Connect device).
As far as I know Tidal is ending all third party integrations. They gave us time to figure out how to sunset service, ( ending subscriptions purchased though us and such), Those services may have just not sent any announcement yet.
We don’t have info on what deals they made with other services.

Select “I am a subscriber and I have a question”
You can also DM them on Twitter:
I sent them messages and made it abundantly clear that the only reason I have a Tidal subscription is due to the integration with Plex and if Tidal does not reconsider this decision, I will cancel my subscription to it.
For what it’s worth, the reply from Tidal:
Thank you for contacting TIDAL Support.
We understand this change can be frustrating. The partnership with Plex is concluding, and your ability to pay through them will not be available after September 26th.
If you’re interested in continuing a TIDAL subscription (and we hope you are!) after your Plex subscription ends, you can simply log into account.tidal.com and select a paid plan. All of your existing playlists and favorites will still be available for you to enjoy.
We are grateful for your flexibility and understanding.
Must be a big disappointment for the Plex team given the enormous amount of work done on the integration. Plexamp + Tidal is a really great experience for me and my family. Thanks for all the hard work in this, looking forward what you’ll do next.
my initial thought that I posted on reddit:
“I can’t help but to think that Plex never moved to the newer Tidal api that offers Tidal Max. And companies sometimes say something that isn’t completely the truth. “
I noticed a lot of people on Reddit are comparing this to Tidal removing support for Samsung TVs and Roku devices, but Plex seems different since Plex is doing all the work to maintain the integration. On those other devices, I imagine it’s Tidal themselves who are responsible for making a version of the Tidal app that’s compatible with Samsung TVs and Roku devices. On Plex, we’re not using a Tidal app, just the API.
For Tidal, Plex users are basically giving them money and asking very little in return compared to a direct Tidal user. No? Unless there’s something I’m not understanding here, I don’t see any financial benefit for Tidal removing Plex integration. If anything, Tidal will lose money over this, even if it’s just a few thousand of us canceling our subscriptions.
This was the same reply I got. Love it when support doesn’t comprehend what you said and gives you a proforma reply.
Plex never moved to their new API, so I thought that’s related to this. Also services like
Roon and Volume have Tidal integration but their APIs are much newer hence they got access to their High Res Flac tracks. Thought someone here mentioned that third parties where also removed, but don’t know if its true. I would consider Roon but I prefer the way Plexamp works.
I can understand your frustration, but it is coming across as a lover’s spat to me - “she started it…”.
Plex’s only online music integration is going away. That is a big feature drop. Adding insult to injury would be if Roon, Sonos and Lumin apps keep their integrations. I mention these services because I use them and I have not received any sunset notifications, as yet.
You need to take corrective actions and not just be perturbed under the garb of Tidal’s unilateral decision. Like many other’s, I am a life-time plex pass subscriber and I mean well.
AK
My frustration? Someone asked “why”, I told them what I know.
You turning it in to some sort of “spat” is all in your brain.
Good idea.
I placed a support ticket via this link:

I guess it’s all about user data these days. If we don’t use the Tidal app, they won’t be able to analyse users. And, as you might know, user data is money.
If they also drop from Sonos, Bluesound, Roon etc they will be dead in the water. What a poor choice. Looking forward to a new partner for Plex. Thanks for the updates. ![]()
Same, i’ve been using Plexamp and the Tidal integration to augment my music.
I wrote to Tidal to let them know my disappointment and will be ending my subscription once the integration ceases.
Could Plex provide a way to export the list of Tidal tracks in our library in csv, json, whatever, so we can have a record of our music and find it elsewhere?
