Plex tidal integration

So it seems that we can play music from tidal with plex for android client.
I have tidal account and plex app shows me an online link for tidal but when I try to configure it it shows me 404 error page. What gives?

I have the page on IOS now too but it’s also missing a link.

I just saw it on the web interface linking to: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400/web/index.html#!/provider/tv.plex.provider.music

OK a formal announcement has now been made on Plex and Tidal integration. But it leaves many unanswered questions

  1. If you already have a Tidal account, can you just add it to Plex?

  2. If you already subscribe to Plex Pass and have a separate Tidal account, can you drop going through Tidal and just pay Plex $19.95 a month for everything?

  3. If you are paying for Tidal through Plex, can you use other interfaces for Tidal as before (web, Mac, Windows, Roon and other clients)?

  4. Will Plex have the capability of passing high definition MQA audio to an appropriate external DAC? Any plans on doing MQA unfolding through Plex itself?

Another question
does plex allow local caching / offline sync for Tidal content (assuming user is an active Tidal subscriber and has linked their account with their plex account)?

  1. Yes, you can link a TIDAL account by accessing “Other Services” in your account settings as described here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/adding-tidal-subscriptions-to-plex/
  2. Yes
  3. Yes, you have full access to TIDAL’s apps as well as Plex’s
  4. That is only supported through a TIDAL app and not Plex, unfortunately

Plex does not currently support syncing of TIDAL content

I don’t really get why this is a thing. Why not use the tidal app if you have a tidal subscription?

I moved to plex from Spotify and Google music to get away from streaming services that flippiantly remove songs from their library every other day due to copyright BS

Edit: okay I’ll bite

Can someone tell me if these things are possible with Plex + tidal

  1. Can all users linked to a plex server see the tidal integration? Can I as the admin be streaming tidal music as well as well as all my users concurrently?

  2. Can you edit the Metadata of albums on tidal within your plex library such as album art, artist photos, etc?

The feature seems to be very broken right now. After linking my pre-existing Tidal account I cannot play any content through Plex, it errors out. Also, I cannot see any of my Favorite albums that I made in the made Tidal app. Some playlists seem to show but it seems random. Logging into another Plex user on my account doesn’t provide me with the Tidal tab but on the mobile app I can see Tidal playlists. None of them will play though.

I can’t seem to get my Tidal account set up when buying through Plex. It keeps telling me I’m not eligible to get the offer, even though I’ve got plex pass. It gives me this error on Tidal’s end. This is a new account btw I haven’t had a subscription before

If you have linked your account and seeing issues, please just make sure the apps and server you’re using are updated to the correct supported versions. See here for a list: https://support.plex.tv/articles/an-intro-to-tidal-with-plex/

  1. Only you as the admin user will have access to the feature as playback is limited by TIDAL to one stream per account.
  2. No, all the metadata is from TIDAL, so you can’t edit it as you would your regular PMS content.

Thanks for checking

Back to square one, I don’t really see the point with coupling backend server software that gives you absolute control over local data with a streaming service that limits the aspect of data control

None the less, I hope the folks who use it enjoy it

Hello, can someone explicitly state which of all these announced features @ https://www.plex.tv/blog/turning-plex-music-up-to-eleventy/ are tidal specific, and which of them will work with only a normal plex (standard or premium) music library.

a feature comparison chart would be good.

OK I see how I can link Tidal and Plex. But how do I handle consolidating my Tidal access with Plex Pass regarding payments? I already pay for both Tidal HiFi and Plex Pass and consolidating will save me money.

Simply, all features which mention Tidal, require Tidal to work.
(i.e. those mentioned in the upper half of the blog posting and down until and including ‘Discovery Radio’)

All features mentioned below Discovery Radio don’t depend on Tidal and are therefore available to everyone on iOS and Android mobile.
More clients to come.

(The first 3 of those ‘Radios’ shown in the screenshots are available in the web app. Go to the Home page of the web app, then switch the dropdown selector from Discover - All Libraries to Discover - Music.
Use the ‘hosted’ web app, because your local version might not be recent enough.)

ok so, for everyone in the thread’s reference;

tidal specific features

  • artist recommendations
  • filling in missing albums
  • augmented artist radio
  • new releases for you
  • universal playlists (this should NOT be tidal specific)
  • universal search
  • discovery radio

Non tidal specific features

  • hq audio playback (automatic assumed behind the scenes)
  • gapless (automatic assumed behind the scenes)
  • loudness leveling (plexpass) (this shows up on the player context menu)
  • sweet fades (plexpass) (player context menu)
  • advanced hybrid caching (automatic assumed behind the scenes)
  • soft pauses (didn’t see any option, assumed always on)
  • silence compression (plexpass) (didn’t see any option or control)
  • voice boost (plexpass) (didn’t see any option or control)

Unknown - unspecified

  • magic artist shuffle – this seems like it would require tidal, or at least a premium music library, how it it accessed?

there was already an existing artist radio and artist shuffle.

so magic artist shuffle = old artist shuffle button, but re-optimized algorithm?

does the magic artist shuffle require plexpass, does it require a premium music library, or can it be used on regular music library?

does it work with tidal if subscribed?

Okay, so it seems to be working in the Android app after setting the app to allow insecure connections.

Regarding subscriptions, I currently have a Military/Vetaran status rate with a sub directly through Tidal. It seems like I’m missing out on some features if I don’t sub directly through Plex. I’m already a lifetime Plex Pass sub, if I move my Tidal sub to Plex will I be able to retain my current rate price?

Lastly, is it possible to link the Tidal account with a user instead of the admin account? I have restricted content in the admin user so commonly used user for my account is not admin.

Precisely.

It is available to every user. Any music library type.

No magic artist shuffle will just shuffle stuff from your library.
However, if you start an Artist Radio, it will sprinkle-in stuff from Tidal (and from other people’s Plex servers if they share a music library with you).
