Loving the new PVR and cannot wait until the feature is merged into the stable base… With the new PVR recordings I would certainly want to delete them but I don’t want to enable the delete function server wide as I don’t want to lose the hundreds of hours I ripped our DVD’s due to a careless delete…
Any chance we can tag PVR recordings as delete on server ok?
The alternate proposal is to make the delete permission per-library, allowing a separate DVR library to suffer the wrath of /dev/null while keeping the time investment in DVD ripping safe and sound. Either implementation would work for me.
Elan beet me to it, oh what the heck I’ll post anyway!
I’ve felt the same concern myself, and can see how per-library granularity of the all powerful allow media deletion option would be helpful. We’ll look into this!
YES! This is one of the most important missing features (at least to me). I want to enable users to delete their recording (which by the very nature of a DVR are temporary) but I do not want them to delete movies and TV shows ripped from disks (which are permanent). This is a must have feature for the DVR to be useful for us. Thanks.
My only concern with ‘per library’ is that it would add one more level of navigation/confusion - users would need to know to go to ‘recorded TV’ as opposed to ‘saved TV’ libraries for those of us that have TV shows that we don’t want to delete.
Enabling the delete functionality at the show/movie level vs a library level would be more functional. For example, if there is content that only my wife watches I want her to be able to delete that when she is done with it regardless of it being a TV show, a movie, a Podcast, or any other type of media. At the same time, I don’t want her to be able to delete other stuff that other members of the household may want to watch.
It is also not very end user friendly to split similar content in to multiple libraries. Coming from software where TV shows, Movies, web series, and any other content could easily co-exist in a single user view, having to split them up is already a step backwards for us with Plex. Having to then split them further is not going to be very intuitive to anyone just sitting down to watch content. The whole concept of ‘TV’ vs ‘Movie’ is already somewhat of an anachronism given the many ways content is created and distributed today.
Good point which is why I suggested that tagging PVR recordings as delete ok would be a good outcome as well. I keep my PVR content separate as unfortunately most the content I record is not at a quality I would want to keep anyway (Ad’s and poor resolution)…
I’m surprised there appears to be no fix for this yet. Am I right? I just enabled the DVR with the recent update and now my kids have the ability to clean out my library when I’m not looking. This is crazy.
@zero_koop The delete function should only be available to the server admin. If your kids have their own account, there shouldn’t be any risk of them being able to delete content, only you.
