Server Version#: Version 1.31.2.6783
Player Version#:
TOS 5.1 community was awaiting this new server version release to fix hardware transcoding. Now, with the latest release having not fixed the issue, Terramaster are now pointing us to Plex for an update on the fix. Hardware transcoding is not working, and I often find that transcoding too much (adding a series to downloads for example) simply kills my plex application and I have to restart it.
Same for me the TerraMaster community directs us to Plex to solve this problem.
I have a TerraMaster F5-221 (tos V.5.1.24-00322) and I used Plex version 1.31.2.6783.
When I try to play a video locally it works (no hardware transcoding but cpu 60% so I can play the video alone) but if I try to play the same video from another network the cpu goes up to 'to 100% instantly and the NAS freezes.
If someone from the community or from plex support can help us solve this problem that would be great because it is still blocking for remote reading, something that I use every day
As for other platforms, we will have an improvement in an upcoming PMS release we will ensure the plex user is added to both the video and media user group as some TOS versions differ in who owns the /dev/dri devices.
Yes, I saw that. Mine is a newer model that still supports HW transcoding.
Hopefully the video/media user fix does the job. Just difficult to know who to listen to as Terramaster are very much blaming the Plex crew (despite the litany of issues since TOS 5 of which Plex is only one).
I can confirm that TOS 5.1.33 fixes HW Transcoding for 423/223 series NASes.
An upcoming PMS (1.32.2 I believe) will include the change to ensure the plex user is part of both the video and media user group which should improve things on all HW transcoding supported Terramaster NASes.
