I’ve been using Plex since 2013. I guess I’m really, really slow at picking up on patterns.
Pretty sure this is the case, but just to confirm: will Plex never play trailers for movies not in your library (excluding the upcoming cinema/DVD trailers options in Plex Pass)?
e.g.: a lot of DVDs come with trailers for other movies. When ripping DVDs, I’ve always ripped all the trailers, assuming that if I stick them in the Trailers folder, Plex will pick those up and add them to the pool of “trailers to play before movies”. However, I’ve been paying more attention to trailers that have played for the past few weeks–for some reason, for a while, I would only get the same three trailers over and over again–and even though that logjam seems to have broken, I’m still only getting trailers for movies that are in my library.
{e.g.e.g./tl;dr: my Trailers folder under The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) contains five trailers that are on the DVD, none of which are for The Exorcism of Emily Rose, none of which are in my library. Assuming the movie itself remains unwatched/I choose “trailers for all movies”, is there any chance I will ever see any of those five trailers?}
I suppose from Plex perspective this is all trailers of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. So if you configure your library to show trailers from media in your library, they could show.
That being said, there’s no „pool of trailers“ feature you can use to feed trailers from a central folder to the cinema trailers feature.
I consider you could instead create a dedicated library to store all those trailers… then again that’s not necessarily ideal if you get to have multiple trailers for the same movie.
I’m pretty sure that Plex only plays the first trailer (in alphabetical order) that you have in the trailers folder. That is, the “default” trailer that plays if you hit the “Play Trailer” icon on the pre-play screen of any movie. No matter how many times you hit the trailer icon, you will always see the same trailer. ( I could be wrong, but I’ve never seen a different behaviour)
Edit: so in the case of the OP, the default trailer for “the Exorcism of Emily Rose” would be one of the trailers for other movies.
