Trailers for upcoming theatrical releases / Blu-ray releases

Trailers for upcoming theatrical releases
Trailers for upcoming Blu-ray releases

These 2 sections that appear in the movie category are unwanted - how can I completely remove or disable them.

The content is questionable for small children and these have all the hallmarks of ads. And it looks like you’ve removed useful sections to make room for this content? It is not wanted.

Please advise on how to remove/disable. Thank you.

@trumpy81

Believe we’re talking about the new “feature” in various apps on the discovery pages. There is no way to turn them off, and disabling the trailers options under the library does no good. The trailers are show in the discovery hubs no matter what, no matter what library…

Yes, this is what I am talking about - the discovery pages bit.

Plex devs, please advise how to remove these sections from Plex.

What is the eta on an option to turn it off?

And what is the last version of Plex that doesn’t have these sections?

Thank you.

This looks like advertising. Is Plex starting to add these to have another revenue stream? I am a lifetime pass member and, as such, do not want to have to get past advertising to view my content. If this is what is going to happen, I am going to find another server.

Could somebody please advise me what this is, is it client based or server based, which clients and what server version numbers? Maybe post a picture or screen capture? I’m running server version 2.9.3, not sure what the latest version is, but last time I upgraded it took the dvr function away, so I had to uninstall and install the dvr beta version again (not sure if there’s a new dvr beta version, but I’m a little gun-shy to pull the trigger on another upgrade). My clients are Roku apps running on two streaming sticks and one express. I haven’t had any of these issues come up, but want to try to avoid them anyway.

Being a plex-pass lifetime subscriber since 2 weeks after I first downloaded plex, I wouldn’t argue with plex implementing ad-streams to the free version of plex. It would probably help them raise revenue and maybe be the push they would need to push those free members over the fence to purchase a plex-pass. Of course, I would not want to see this on the paid versions…I admit I’m a bit biased here. You have to admit that you get quite a hell of a bang for none of your bucks with the free version and I always wondered if they were cutting their own throat giving so much away.

Ok, I think I just found this. Maybe I am wrong, but isn’t this a separate app on Roku and not part of the server or client? It looks like something that should be removeable through the Roku app. Maybe I’ll test my theory this weekend and install and remove it.

No, it’s not a separate app, it’s a new “feature” of the Plex app for Roku, Apple and maybe a couple of others. I hope you can find a way to turn it off, and share with the rest of us, but so far no one has. Pretty sure it’s server controlled, the apps just display what they are told to.

Ok, here’s what I think is going on.

There are two different Roku apps for Plex. One without (the one I have originally installed) and one with (the “preview”) one with the “preview” ribbon across the corner. I installed the second, and have taken a picture of both side by side.

Probably…(I don’t work for plex, so this is at your own risk)…if you uninstall the version you have and install the one without the ribbon, the previews will go away. I have no idea whether or not you will save your “viewed” lists of movies or will it reset everything. I’d bet that stuff is stored on the server and it’d still be there, but I’ve lost heavily on bets before…probably the reason I never developed a gambling addiction.

If you search the roku app store, the regular version should probably come up. The preview version doesn’t come up when I search for it. I had found it through a link on a thread on the plex forums, but can’t seem to find it now.

One other thing…I ran the preview app and can’t find a “discovery page” or “trailers for upcoming blu-rays” . Where would I find those? Thinking that I’d like to play with it a bit before I delete the preview version.

No - the previews are in both apps.

Just navigate to a movie library from the text list on the left side. You won’t see them on the “home” page that loads initially. Scroll to the right and there you go. BluRay and Theatrical trailers. Only one sets loads each time, randomly I guess, but back out and reload, and eventually you will get the other set.

I can’t find them on either app, and if you can find them on both apps, I’d guess that it must have something to do with the server side. My server is 2.9.3, which was the one linked to in the DVR beta section of the forums. I had upgraded once through the upgrade button that appears on the settings page of the server once, and it removed the DVR function, so I uninstalled that and reinstalled the 2.9.3 DVR beta version. I haven’t upgraded the server since. I’ll see if I can find it on the DVR Beta page and link to it. I do know that you have to have a Plexpass to run it and that it probably isn’t downloadable without a Plexpass.

Wait, hold on…I was reading the plex web version number.

Server is version: 1.2.0.2838

There are six versions of the DVR Beta…trying to figure out which I have.

Link to the thread below for those in our television audience who want to play along.

Bad news.

The version I have is Beta 3. They’re up to Beta 6. I clicked on the link to Beta 3 and it states that the page is no longer there and redirects to the home page. Apparently they’ve taken it down. I would guess that Beta 6 probably has the previews in it. Sorry, all. Thought I was on to something to help out.

Yeah my kid just watched a trailer for a rated R movie by accident because of this “feature”. Not cool, Plex. Another half-assed feature with little or no user feedback before being released into the wild.

These aren’t earning money for Plex. These are features for people like me that want to see trailers for what’s out in the cinema soon in front of movies in their home theater to add to the feel. No one is forcing ads on you. It is disabled by default, and there are check boxes to keep it disabled. Quit acting like the sky is falling and throwing around unfounded accusations.

Read the whole thread champ. This is about a section in discovery mode that is not filtered and cannot be turned off in any way.
