If I have local trailers included in the folder for the movie, and also have the option for “Enable Cinema Trailers” enabled, I have a selection of trailers and extras to choose from. In the web app, and in the apps I have tried, all of the local trailers and extras are listed first, and the remote selections follow that list. I also have options set to only include trailers from the library at the server level.
But I’m curious, if I have the player set to play trailers before a movie, does the server default to the local version (if available) or choose the remote version, or is it completely random?
Generally, I would prefer the local version, just because I know for sure what it is. At one point in time, the remote trailers often buffered or wouldn’t play, so I knew which one was (trying) to play.
Which ever was added first. If you have the local trailer next to the movie when adding it to a library, the LMA should kick in and find the local trailer first before the automatic routine to add in the online ones.

And that probably explains why sometimes, I seem to get the “remote” trailer when I choose to play the trailer for a preview (without selecting a specific local one), or a slight lag or buffering when the server selects a trailer to play before the movie. I’ve added local trailers as I find them to movies that already have the remote ones available. So even though Plex shows the local ones first in the list of extras, it uses the others 'cause they were added to the database info first.
Thanks. It’s not important, just one of those “I need to know” things.
