latest version of android seems to have an issue with transcoding live tv. device is set to 2, 4 or 8 mbps, which is also displayed on dashboard, but it still direct plays HD streams.
tested on 2 firetv’s and samsung galaxy S8
as you can see from the screenshot the device is set to 2mbps (galaxy S8) but video and audio is on 720p (=source) and direct play. from the bandwidth graph you also see that is uses 10-20mbps instead of 2mbps.
iOS and tizen devices are accepting the setting and transcode.
btw. the app on samsung (tizen) does not show EPG and in currently shown there are only 8 shows displayed and you can’t show more. if you move a bit around it crashes.
Okay I’ve tried out some older versions but couldn’t get it to work. Just started using my setup at the end of November but can’t remember if it worked back then.
Maybe you can try to find out which update caused the issue.
main question for me is if this is a server issue or client problem. if i have to guess i would say client, but it’s quite hard to find information who controlls the transcoding process
current release is broken again :(. error is exaclty the same. all android based players (phone, firetv) do not transcode anymore.
current version (from play store - and no updata available) ist 8.1.0.17967 (22.5.2020) does not work. the version before did work well - sorry i don’t know the build for.
@Hoffmann772 can you confirm this at your end as well?
Yes I have experienced the same problem. The transcoding doesn’t work anymore since Version 8.1. In Version 8.0.2 everything seems to work fine. Hope someone can figure this out
Source is HomeRun Prime
Channel FOX Sports West 720p MPEG2 (approx) 12Mbps
This is a remote session. Server is set to 720p 4Mbps for remote quality. Shield is also set to 720p 4Mbps for remote quality. Server is attempting to direct play. Upload is only 10Mbps so it’s buffering a lot.
