Transcoder broken after files moved

Hi i was running out of space on my Plex system drive which was causing transcode to fail on big files so i have moved the Plex application support folder onto my raid media drive instead and created a symlink to that location. Plex is now running happily and i can watch things but can’t sync them as the transcoder fails. Any help on this would be great as i have read lots of posts but non for this exact issue.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-25_09-38-35.zip (2.7 MB)

Where is the Transcoder temp directory located?
Does it have R/W permission?
Is it on a local mount? (network mounts won’t support the needed file locking correctly)
Is the Transcode Sessions directory present in that directory? (Restarting Plex should be clearing it out and making it fresh if write permission is present)

Hi thank you for the help and I will have a look this evening as I’m travelling at the moment. Do you know the default location to give me somewhere to look as I have moved everything after app support folder to bigger media drive and linked that back to its original location

Hi Chuck,

Sorry for delay but I have had a look and when I ask the app to sync the Plex server creates a folder in the Sync+ folder but then doesn’t put anything in it does this show that Plex permissions are correct as it can create folders ok

var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode is drawer-sr-x+

Hope this makes sense

Wayne, Why are the SUID and sticky bits set?

none of these should be. Setting as sticky will cause problems.

sudo sh
find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type d -exec chmod 0755 {} \;
find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type d -exec chmod og-s {} \;
find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type f -exec chmod 0644 {} \;

Hi Chuck,

I have done this and now the permissions are drawer-xr-x. I have restarted Plex and its still giving me the same error and the sync folder is empty on the server.

Please recreate for me and download a fresh set of logs.
Attach the entire ZIP. I will look at the current state and previous states

HI Chuck,

Logs for you.

Hope you can see what is wrong and point me in direction to fix it.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-30_01-06-39.zip (3.4 MB)

I will list out everything I find:

  1. Private Domain plex.direct not being handled correctly / at all.
Sep 29, 2019 23:19:33.758 [0x7f1e2ffff700] ERROR - getaddrinfo(192-168-1-33.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz012345.plex.direct) failed: -5
Sep 29, 2019 23:19:33.758 [0x7f1e2ffff700] DEBUG - Network: 192-168-1-33.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz012345.plex.direct failed to resolve to 192.168.1.33 but instead yielded ""

Some modem/routers call this “DNS Rebinding Protection”. Grant an exception for the domain for it to work better on the LAN.

  1. Does at least this much of the transcoder sessions path exist already and owned by user plex:plex with permissions 755 ?
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode/Sessions/

Hi chuck

This is permissions for sessions folder

root@openmediavault:/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode/Sessions# ls -al
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 2 plex plex 4096 Sep 30 01:06 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 plex plex 4096 Sep 24 21:58 …
root@openmediavault:/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode/Sessions#

Hope this helps

I’m thinking maybe a clean install on a bigger vm as it worked until I moved it
