Can you provide your PMS logs and a sample of a file that is not playing as you expect? I might be best to pivot on your issue into a new thread.
I don’t have a way to host a file that large. I have the most populist setup for a server that is available. So I can’t imagine I’m the only one having this issue. I’ll provide logs.
But my other gripe is removing hardware decoding for live TV. Can you make that an option? I don’t have weak signal issues on either one of my setups and hardware decoding works perfect for me on 8921.
Here are logs from the latest release. No hardware transcoding is functional on a live TV stream. Also, when starting a live stream it restarts 3 to 4 times by playing the first few seconds then starting over.
Here are the logs from my other server. This is a dedicated TV DVR server located at a remote location. It is behaving the same way. Repeating the first 5 seconds in the beginning of the stream and zero hardware acceleration is being utilized.
@kd6icz can you provide a similar set of screenshots to here (Dashboard and Transcoder settings), but capturing the issue?
Also can you confirm that your Intel drivers are up to date?
Sure. Might be a day or two. Weekends are a busy time for my server. I’m surprised that the logs don’t tell you that information.
My drivers are up to date on both machines.
Okay. I’ve narrowed it down to an issue with the Roku client app. See the attached screenshots and logs.
Likely not related but I would suggest using an actual directory and not the root of your R:\ drive. Also can you please confirm that this drive is not a network location/mount?
Also just to confirm the issue you’re having is Live TV is using SW transcoding and not HW transcoding while using Roku, is that correct?
Uhmmm. Okay. Let’s lay some groundwork here so there is zero confusion on what’s happening.
My system worked flawlessly with version 8921 and prior. I’ve always had both boxes checked for hardware transcoding and I never change these settings. I only install stable releases and so I can avoid issues like this. Occasionally one slips through.
I’ve had my transcode directory set to R:/ since I can’t remember how long which goes in a directory that PMS creates named “transcode.” This is a virtual disk created in RAM via RAMDisk software.
So to review what the screenshots are confirming is that when I use the Android mobile client everything appears to function as they should. However when I use the Roku client a couple different issues appear. One being that the server uses software instead of hardware for transcoding and the other is the playback is a mess. It’ll play a few seconds and then start over at the beginning of the stream again. Sometimes repeating this twice before smoothing out.
I’ll test more clients to see if any others show this same behavior.
I’m able to reproduce this issue on a Windows host with iGPU. We have some larger feature work that needs to be addressed before we can specifically dig into this issue. However, this feature work may also resolve this issue
.
Awesome! I’ll stay on 8921 until further notice.
So I decided to give @chris_decker08 H.265 build a try last night and found it seems to work fine on both my 11th gen and 14th gen servers. I tested both Live TV and stored media.
I will continue to use this build and watch for any issues.
