Transcoding DTS-HD to PCM 7.1

I have an audio device that supports PCM and Dolby formats but does not support DTS-HD. I’m trying to get DTS-HD 7.1 content transcoded into PCM 7.1 but all I get is PCM 5.1. [Note, I do not want EAC 7.1, although that would give me the full 8 channels it would be compressed]. I tried 2 players, one on Windows and the other an Apple TV 4K. All settings are set for 7.1 and I get TrueHD 7.1 and TrueHD Atmos pass-thru on PMP on Windows (AppleTV does not support TrueHD).

I’ve seen other forums postings with similar problems, but they are very old and I don’t see definitive answers other than to make sure the device actually supports PCM 7.1 The Windows device is running on an recent, high end Intel NUC which says it is supported and I believe the AppleTV should as well.

Ideas on what could be wrong and/or what to look for?

A little more info that is hopefully helpful. I created some 7.1 PCM content and it plays perfectly as 7.1 PCM. So the chain from the Plex server all the way through to the audio/video output is handling 7.1 PCM just fine.

I then went back to some DTS-HD MA 7.1 content and turned on the heads up info display during playback. For audio, this is what I get (and yes, the DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio track is selected):

Audio:
Codec: dca (DCA (DTS Coherent Acoustics))
Bitrate: 2.216mbps [as an aside this of course varies]
Channels: 5.1(side) -> 5.1
Output driver: wasapi

Here’s a screen shot:

Hi! I have just bought the Apple TV 4K and get the same problem… The TRUEHD 7.1 channel is transcoded to FLAC 7.1, but from the DTS-HD MA 7.1 track I only get 5.1 audio output.

Did you make any progress?

Nope, I’ve been unable to find a way to get it to transcode DTS-HD MA 7.1 to 7.1 PCM. All I get is 5.1 PCM.

BTW, the problem is not specific to the Apple TV, I believe it is a server issue as the transcode is the same with an Apple TV player and a Windows player.
