Is it possible to run Plex on one pc and have the file on a second pc and have the Plex transcode those files from the second pc?
If you mean when a client begins to stream a file, have a machine other than PMS do the transcoding, no.
i mean that you have one pc for the storage of the files and another pc that have the plex server and you tal the plex that the file are on the first pc
Yes, that is possible. My own setup is like that. I have my files on a Linux PC and is using a Mac Mini as a Plex Server.
Is there a significant delay in case a transcending is required?
Have you been able to watch a movie IN 4K?
Don’t have any 4K material or 4K tv for that matter. Haven’t noticed any difference when playing files from the Linux PC compared to files on a USB3 drive (connected to Mac Mini) which I also have some content on.
If one computer serves as storage (just like a NAS would), and the other computer doing all the PMS work, it will be fine.
