Transcoding issues with the latest PMS version on QNAP

Server Version1.18.3.2156:
Player Version 7.26.0.14578 (android):
NAS Type: QNAP TS-253B

Hi, I’m having problems with transcoding with the latest server version, when I play a movie with transcoding I get smeared colorful lines on the android player, when I play direct its ok. When I play from the web player on the same device (android phone) its ok as well, even when transcoding.

I also tried on android TV player (not sure what version the player was) and got the same problem

When I rolled back to the default PMS in the QNAP App store (1.16.6.1592) and it worked fine when transcoding.

here is how transcoding with new server version looks like:

Any ideas what can cause this ?

I have also the same issue
Will glad for solution

Thanks
Guy

Plex updated the version of FFMPEG in 1.17 and the Intel driver in 1.18.1, till they can get an driver from intel that doesn’t cause this there is a workaround.

Known issue, correction to the Intel iHD driver being tested.

  1. SSH into the QNAP
  2. cd /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/lib/dri
  3. Remove the file: iHD_drv_video.so
  4. Restart PMS

It’s a known issue with the new Intel driver and burned subtitles. Instead of deleting the driver and/or downgrading all the way to 1.16, you can try one of these versions:

its not related to the subtitles, it happens without subtitles as well

Well, it’s related to transcoding which is triggered by enabling/burning subtitles which disables direct play in some players. Therefore it’s most noticable when most of your content is direct-play compatible for your players and then you enable subtitles. Anyway, try that version

it seems like it solved it for me, thanks

TO ALL:

Found what appears to be root cause of this current difficulty with the iHD_drv_video.so. I will be testing as soon as the build is complete.

I suggest trying the updated 1.18.3.2175 Preview build.
It specifically addresses the iHD driver.
We discovered a problem in how the binary was built. It would work for some but not for others.

where do i find it?

any chance you have that link for the working build? the link seems to be dead

They released an official update which fixes this, probably why they deleted these links. Current version should be OK

@ChuckPa Is this issue still open?

I have a QNAP NAS using a Roku Ultra as a player. I’m running Plex 1.18.5.2260, and when I enable subtitles it looks exactly like the image in the initial post.

When I remove the intel driver file, everything seems to work fine, but I’m assuming the CPU is doing the transcoding as it’s running at a much higher utilization.

The iHD_drv_video.so driver is still a problem. The issue is still open within Engineering.

Just wondering if there is an update on this one? I just installed 1.18.6.2368 and still can’t watch transcoded shows on my TV. I have to downgrade all the way to 1.16.6.1592.

Very frustrating that this has been ongoing for some time now.

Just upgraded to 1.18.7.2415 and still get a blank screen when NAS is transcoding with hardware-enabled transcode. Downgraded back to 1.16.6.1592 and everything works fine.

Any ideas on why this is still broken?

What model Qnap do you have again?

I have a Qnap TS-653A with 4.4.1.1216 firmware. I just installed Plex Media Server 1.18.7.2434 and still just get a blank screen on my TV when transcoding.

I can’t remember the last version of working PMS as I didn’t keep each version when I downloaded it. I was able to get 1.16.6.1592 by default through Qnap so I just keep downgrading to this version. I have kept 1.18.3.2156 onwards, and none of these work.

Are you direct connecting your TV to the Qnap via HDMI or connecting via the network with a Plex client?

Connecting via cabled network using the Plex client on my Samsung TV. Granted it is an old Samsung TV (UA46C8000) but given it used to work and now doesn’t with the latest version, something has gone awry.
