Transcoding on LAN device?

Server Version#: 1.18.9.2571
Player Version#: 7.29.2.16071

Hi all. I am sure this has been asked a million times, but I can’t seem to find a good thread to answer my question/help request. I am sorry.

My server at home started transcoding files to my Amazon Fire Cube. I mean, the most I have done is that I reformated my PC, added a new NVMe as main, and just installed the server again and pointed to the HDD with movies.

But its transcoding and I don’t know why. I have looked at all the settings I can think of and still won’t stop doing it.

Can someone please help me out? I don’t want to transcode ever, I was direct play as I know the Amazon Cube can do it.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-28_17-54-53.zip (7.5 MB)

as for video transcoding:

selected subtitle cannot be converted to a compatible format, burning into video stream
avoiding video remux due to burned subtitle stream

as for audio transcoding:

Cannot direct stream audio stream due to codec truehd when profile only allows aac

The server thinks there’s not sufficient CPU capacity to transcode. Could it be you previously had hw transcoding enabled?!

Hi Tom. So, I know I should probably understand what you said, but sadly I do not. So sorry for my ignorance.

So for subs, I need to make sure it has an STR file and I just need to add it to the video with mkvtoolnix or something similar?

As for sound, I have always seen the same movies and never transcoded

I am on the same setup I was before I formated, other than a new SSD. I have a 6700K CPU and a GTX 1080 GPU. Maybe I need to change my settings or something somewhere?\

Again, sorry for the dumb questions and thanks for the help.

EDIT: Now i am going crazy. I tried another movie and its direct playing fine :(. Any reason ? Uploading more files in case someone knows what is wrong and I am just not smart at this stuff.002 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.mkv.txt (7.4 KB) The Invisible Man (2020).mkv.txt (8.0 KB)

No. The text segments I included are messages from your logs.
The video is being transcoded because the player doesn’t want to play that SRT file as a soft subtitle (displaying the subtitle over the video during playback). Therefore Plex will mix the subtitle right into the video. This way, it’ll look to the client as if it only gets a video (which it does).

I’m not sure if this is because your Android TV device doesn’t support SRT subtitles or because you have set “burn subtitles” to Always in your player settings.

Few players actually support TrueHD – so that being transcoded shouldn’t come as a surprise. That being said… audio transcoding is much less power hungry compared to video transcoding – so you probably won’t notice that on its own.

Again… that’s just the messages from the logs.
You can check those out by yourself. Open Plex Media Server.log and look for lines with a MDE: prefix and the lines containing Streaming Resource: Reached Decision
