Transcoding quality hardware vs software

Hey all,
I have been doing the deep dive, reading before I make the upgrade to a new qnap rackmount nas that will primarily be a plex server. From some of what I have read it looks like people believe the quality of software transcoding is of higher quality than hardware?
Would I be better off with an intel unit with igpu UHD 630 or a ryzen 7 3700x for software transcoding based on quality?
Regards,
Matthew

With the advent of the UHD 630, I can’t tell the difference. MAYBE you can see a difference if projecting on a very large wall (?) but that’s a serious edge case.

In that case, I would think DirectPlay is the desired choice anyway. Transcoding and sending to a projector seems, umm, counterproductive.

Thanks, perhaps this was referencing the 600 igpu.
I try to direct play but transcoding has to happen on occasion.

Do we know if plex is working on qts hero ( TS-hx77XU)?

Re: QTS-Hero

I am waiting for QNAP to supply a test unit.
