I am looking for a new Nas which supports Hardware transcoding and has at least 6 to 8 bays and a powerful Hardware for vm and so on.
I found the qnap tvs 872xt.
It has a Intel core i5 processor with Intel UHD Graphics. This nas is not in the compatibilty list. So could you tell me if the nas is good for Hardware transcoding 1080 p or even 4k?

While it is expensive, it is very future-proof from a video perspective.

You have your choice of the i5-7500 processor (if not much subtitle burning), or the i7-7700 processor.
14 actual drive locations: 8x 3.5", 4x 2.5", 2x 2280 M.2 short or full length
PCI-E slots for 1 GPU if you want one, 2 half-length slots for 10 GbE / USB / whatever.
Hello, this is even 600€ more than the TVS 872XT.
I also need to buy the hdds, so this is very much.
Can someone of the team tell if the 872xt support hardware transcoding. It is not in the list.
Another nas I found is the TS-873, it supports a geforce gpu.
With this installed is hardware transcoding possible or will it be.
I found the other thread for the tvs version and there it is not because of the amd graphics,
but in this nas we the geforce one, will it be possible?

Could you give me some information to the ts 873 and geforce gpu hardware transcoding?
The CPU itself will do more than an nVidia will do at present.
I don’t know particulars of PCI-E card compatibility.
I did add the integration for QNAP-approved nVidia cards which use the NVIDIA_GPU_DRV package.
Beyond this, I don’t know about cards. I did use a GT-1060 when developing.
The CPU ist just an AMD R-Series so no hardware transcoding direct, but it is possible to install a gt-1050 oder gt-1030. The gt1050 is in the compatibility list.
The difference between the ts873 and the tvs-872 is around 1000€. So I don’t know which one would be better for transcoding movies mit ac3 sound.

One thing to keep in mind re: 872XT vs. 873 w/Nvidia card. Nvidia limits their consumer cards (i.e. GT families) to 2 simultaneous HW Transcodes at a time.
Intel does not (up to the limit of the particular embedded GPU family). Also there are some Plex Transcoding functions such as Subtitles that don’t use the GPU at all, so the then the GPU performance of the given box comes into play as well.
The x73 box is a nice system, but really not in the same class as the 872XT. A closer match would the Ryzen based TS-x77 family. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for and there is no free lunch.
Any boxes require a Plex Pass subscription to enable HW transcoding support.
