I have an HD Homerun extend for my tuner and an nVidia Shield as my Plex client. The Shield is fully capable of direct playing any format that the tuner can output, but Plex insists on transcoding everything anyway. Doesn’t matter if I enable the H.264 hardware transcoder in the tuner or not, the PMS will even transcode from H.264 to H.264.
I have the quality set to MAXIMUM on the client, and audio passthru is enabled. I successfully play movies with the same codecs and higher bitrates via Direct Play, so I can’t understand why the TV streams are different.
