I just got a new DS218+ NAS, and have followed the guide (in the FAQ) on transferring my server from my Windows 10 laptop to DSM. Everything works great, except that it doesn’t adjust the directory for each file to the new location, even after adding it to the library folders and doing a library scan. Instead I end up with two entries of each file, the original entry from the old server (which is now a dead link), and a newly created fresh entry from adding the new folders (which has all the metadata/tags but no ratings). I know i can empty trash to get rid of the dead links, but I need to merge or transfer the ratings first. Am I doing something incorrectly, or is there just something additional needed to be done to do this?
Original and destination PMS and DSM are all up to date. The new server is setup on the NAS drive, where the media is also located. Original library folders were in E:\Music(Video), and the new library folders are in volume1\BigBoss\Music(Video).
That’s exactly what’s happening. However, the ratings are my own ratings, not from any of the online databases, which is why I’d really like to find a way to transfer them, or to change the directories from the original database.
Yeah Q25 is what I was following step by step. Tried it a few times now, but not getting the ratings on the new entries. Literally just copied my entire entire E:\ over, so the folder structure is exactly the same, aside from the “volume1/BigBoss” vs “E:”.
Should I be adding the new folder, and deleting the old folder simultaneously? Or add new folder, scan, delete old folder, empty trash? Q25 sounds like at the same time, but I’ve seen it directed both ways elsewhere. Don’t know if it make a difference or not, but that’s the only thing I can think of that’d be messing up. Unless it’s some issue with the \ in Windows and / in DSM/Linux. I would assume that’d be a well known issue though.
What’s really weird is it seems to work fine with the videos.
I’m actually trying it again right now. Movies replaced properly. Even added some ratings to a few before adding the new folder just to test, but it worked flawlessly. Music is still just making a second set of entries.
