I noticed that some parts of Plex aren’t translated to German. I know that you will do it someday and that you don’t have the time for doing it right now. For me using Plex in half English and half German is a pain. So I just want to know how I can translate Plex by my own. If useful I will make this translation available to you and other impatient German users.
**Short version:
**How can I translate the terms unwatched, recently viewed shows, by director, etc. in Plex movies?
I could be wrong, but that sounds like a skin change to me. I’ll take a look when I have some time, unless someone corrects me or beats me to it
I’m also ‘confused’ by the half english half german menues.
Am using Plex Skin and most texts are translated, except the entries like
- Movie/TVShows
** Recently Added
** Recently Watched
- Music (iTunes)
** Compilations
** Albums
** Artists
…
maybe this are the parts, which cannot be translated in the skin?
After some digging, I think that ~Library/Application Support/Plex/skin/NAME_OF_SKIN/language/LANGUAGE/strings.xml is the relevant file to edit. I can’t say for sure that all the strings you might want to translate are in there. Some may be set within the Client or Media Server code. Perhaps a skinner or dev can chime in here.
If you are able to improve the translations, it would nice if you could share your changes in the appropriate skin forum so others can benefit and perhaps they can be included in the future versions.
Note: If you are using Preen to auto-update your skins, or are editing the default Mediastream skin, you will need to create a copy of the skin and give it a different name (which will show in the skin selection setting in Plex). Otherwise updates will overwrite your changes.
I already translated everything from refocus and the changes were added to the skin. But now I’m left with “recently watched…”. They aren’t translated in any skin.
It shouldn’t be so difficult to give us the ability to change this or just translate Plex. I think it would really make Plex a lot better having everything in one language. So I would translate all that’s left and publish the changes.
If they could organize it so as to put as much as is possible in one file, I would gladly start work on a Norwegian translation. Already translated a few of the wiki pages.
Those strings are in a xib file for the moment.
They should be translatable in a futur version according to Elan…
Good to hear. This makes Plex much more accessible. I just hope this will be the case soon. Or is there a way to edit this xib file? So I can translate it inofficial. I'm just getting tired of these English fragments.
Most strings are already translated isn’t it an easy task to add the missing ones? I know there are more important things to do, but this is so easy to do and has such a big impact to the user experience. They don’t have to translate it now, but give us the ability to translate it by our won. We all want to help.
Why is Plex translation so poor even after a so long time… It is Still a mix of english and native language everywhere. This is not user friendly at all.
The translation issue are in the client but also in the media manager where part of the gui is translated and some strings are sent to the client in english only.
It is hard to believe that today with so much people ready to do the translation we still do not have a decent international version of Plex.
Many end-users around me ask me for a translated solution and I have no other choice than installing XBMC which is fully translated for years.
I second that. I’ve try many time to lead the french community to help translating skin, help and plugins. But I haven’t real support of the dev Plex team. translation became deprecated and useless.
I hope this will be put in the priority list soon.
Well, So many reactions to our last posts… This probably gives us an idea of where are the priorities
Hi,
since the last post is from Nov 2012 - will anything happen here like that translation is really possible for _all_ strings?
