Troubleshooting playback issues

I’ve been trying to troubleshoot why a certain movie failed to play on an LG TV (https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs-soundbars/ultra-big-tvs/70um7100pla/)

Here is the SERVER I use (Intel NUC i7, 32 GB RAM, windows, movies are stored on an external HDD via 3.0 USB)

SERVER.txt (96.8 KB)

The problem I faced was trying to play a specific movie, which didn’t want to run either in original quality or being transcoded and was buffering all of the time.

I don’t think the internet speed was a problem (140mbs+ download on the device we were using to watch, 70 Mbps upload on the device used to stream (server)) even reducing the quality to 720p and it was still buffering.

This is what Tautulli shows:

Some things to note:

  1. I have a lifetime plex pass and use hardware acceleration (which I am not sure if it makes sense on the NUC device with a weak GPU)

  2. I have enabled “Automatically adjust quality (beta)”

  3. Internet streaming video quality is set to maximum.

  4. There was no warning on the screen (connection or transcode speed issues while watching the movie)

If anyone could point me in the right direction on how to troubleshoot these types of scenarios I’d be very thankful.

Have a nice day and a happy new year!

Anyone with a similar issue?

I couldn’t stream 4k movies at first then some 1080p movies. Tried all the settings and troubleshooting. I moved my server to a wired connection and ran Plex through my Xbox and problems solved.

It was even saying direct stream even though it was endlessly buffering and sometimes giving me “not enough cpu for conversion” error. The Plex TV Apps suck and thinking that was the issue.
