TrueHD audio failing to transcode from Qnap to WebOS

Server Version#:1.41.7.9749
Player Version#:5.91
This issue may have started with earlier versions of PMS but this is what I have currently.

All mkv’s with a TrueHD audio will no longer play that particular audio track with the clients (LG C1 - 03.52.50 & C3 - 23.20.69) exiting with the error:-

Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.

The same files will play just fine to:-

  • Android devices running the 2025.15 version so it’s not that the transcoder can’t deal with the track itself - transcodes to Opus.
  • Chrome browser on Windows 11 - transcodes to AAC.
  • Plex for Windows - where it simply direct plays.

Anyone else seeing this (have I missed others posts maybe) ?

Interestingly there is a post stating that this PMS version now transcodes HD audio to android versions whereas before it didn’t - so maybe changes are linked somehow?

confirmed on LG C1 – webos player not functioning correctly with truehd

unfortunately needs to wait until they return fro conference.

Just for info - issue still present on 1.41.7.9784 (at least on the C3).

Finally some attention!

General problems with this were already reported 5 Months ago =(

That’s completely unrelated to my issue and it’s never going to work - LG only allow TrueHD to pass thru from HDMI inputs - no onboard app is ever likely to work.

If you read a bit harder - the issue here is that TrueHD audio doesn’t get transcoded - the app just throws an error and stops.

Yes exactly → TrueHD does not get transcoded
The usual simple solution for Plex would be, when a device does not support that output, to transcode or primarily if available choose another audio track with same language

You are talking complete nonsense!

Until a very recent version this worked with no issues at all. All TrueHD content transcoded just fine. Your original response is going on about passthru and now you’re talking about transcoding - it’s one or the other. Not both.

1.41.7.9823 fixes the issue I had.

Cheers!
