So we’ve got PGS direct stream which is “relatively” recent but what about truehd? Will that ever be a possibility?
I can pass it thru and that’s why I sometimes use the xbox app but the other issues there are on a whole other level.

I may be mistaken but I think you will need a Invidia Shield to get TrueHD. Most other device/TVs don’t support it. You may be able to pass through if your TV supports it but you need to use a high speed HDMI cable and use EARC.
Which I do. My receiver supports it. I’m using it with Plex app on Xbox Series X… It even passes thru on my freaking galaxy z flip lol… I see zero reason for a TV like LG C9 to not be able to pass it thru eARC since it does on the xbox.
No TV (LG, Samsung, Sony, etc.) supports TrueHD passthrough from TV based apps. It is a TV manufacturer restriction.
When using the Plex SmartTV app, TrueHD will be transcoded by Plex Media Server to a supported format.
The LG C9 supports TrueHD passthrough for devices attached to HDMI inputs.
That is why TrueHD direct plays when using an Xbox/Shield Pro/etc. connected to an HDMI input on the TV.
Ok that makes sense and it’s a bummer. Is FLAC the same? As I can see that transcoding as well but passed thru on xbox.
I’ve no videos with FLAC audio. I do not know how the Plex LG app handles that format. It should pass multi-channel PCM (added in the Dec '23 update).
