TrueHD - understanding where my bottleneck is

Hello, apologies if posting in an incorrect manner and thanks in advance for any feedback.
Plex server running on Debian. i7 6700 (no gpu). 16gb ram, ethernet to router (GBe) ethernet to smart tv.
Plex player running on LG B4.
Sound Sony HT-S2000 via ultra HDMI cable on eARC.
The issue I have observed is that media with TrueHD audio causes the media to buffer indefinitely, or buffer occasionally, stutter or sometimes works fine. When it is a problem, if I change to 5.1 all is good.
When in TrueHd the video is direct play but audio transcoded to eac3. Changing to direct stream doesnt help. Changing video quality doesnt help and some cases makes it worse.
When monitoring in plex dashboard network out maxes out at 83MBs.
I am wondering if this is a bottleneck causing the TrueHD issue, or coincidence and its something else.
I am also wondering if the TV cant handle direct play all of this and is the bottleneck? Im thinking it should be capable.
Any suggestions to working it out please?
What I would like is to be able to have the 4K HDR Atmos where available.
Thanks

So after reading more and trial and further error I think I am right in saying that my problem was down to the TV Plex app not being able to pass TrueHD audio as it can only be done so through HDMI - anyone care to advise if thats correct?

I then tried to run Plex HTPC from an Asus PB60 on Debian connected to my TV to act as a player only. When testing TrueHD was direct play according to Plex server but playback itself was choppy - I found something about Plex HTPC Windows needing DLL file replacing, but not the linux version - anyone had experience with this to confirm if hardware or software issue?

Now waiting for a used Nvidia Shield 2019 to arrive to see if solves all my problems!

It’s mostly a software issue. The Linux version of Plex HTPC ( = mpv) also needs that “DLL” (on Linux, there are no DLLs; there it would be the libmpv.so) swap. But due to the way the Linux version is packaged, it’s not easily possible to do so.

Stick with the Windows Version.

Would you mind expanding a bit on this issue between linux or windows?

are you connecting the HTPC directly to the TV screen (so in essence a large monitor) for playback?

I ask because I"m about to build a new plex server based upon debian 12 (headless). it’ll be strictly used as a plex server, it’ll sit in the corner collecting dust.. but i’m contemplating sticking with windows.. Was always under the impression that while windows is the easiest to setup (and it is), a proper linux install allows PMS to really strut its stuff and on a given set of hardware, plex on linux is definitely superior.

please enlighten me if the above is not true.

They were talking about the Client not the Server.
