I knew it wasnt just me. They are havig the same exact issue on this Forum posted a couple of hrs ago. Panasonic can't sign in or connect to server
That is unrelated, the Panasonic app is no longer supported. Your set is a 2016 model, it would be interesting to know if this issue only affects older Vizio systems.

Actually its completely related. It was never a service issue. Its more that Plex is partnering up with companies like Google & pushing for people to use Google Chromecast. Gave some rubbish about if you are using “Presto” your device will not be compatible because of security reasons. To which is rubbish given Vizio could of just given a userface update to change that. My TV is only 3 1/2 years old; which is not even that old. Yet I still was forced to buy Google Chromecast.
I’m not oblivious to what’s going to happen. They want people to use Google Chromecast or these other devices so they can collect your metadata and connect who you are & what you watch to your Google account. This way they can send your information over to these tech giant companies. As they force feed you Ads of things you like from off of what you watch or sites you surf. Kind of why Vizio got busted for selling people IPs & user information without consent & had to pay a 2.2 million dollar fine.
Well like I said I already ordered the Google Chromecast. I dont even care anymore. This is the last minute update warning they sent out. That most ppl knew nothing about till their service was cut off & now their online servers & multiple TVs now have to get this device. Imagine doing this during a Pandemic when most people are unemployed & have to pay for these external devices for all their TV sets or they just lost their service entirely. Just disgusting. Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices
Also the article on Vizio:
An article from 2017. Your TV is getting old. I expect the “smart” features will eventually not be supported as technology moves forward. This is why I bought a set with at least 4 HDMI inputs. Previous experience with Amazon dropping support for their apps on all of my DVD players and my TiVo taught me to expect this.
Did you buy the new Chromecast with Google TV? Looks like an awesome device.
You are aware that my TV has more then 3 HDMI outputs & so on.
Here are my TV specs:
Nothing is out of date about my TV in the slightest besides it not being 4k even though majority of shows & movies arent even in 4k. Everything they are mentioning is a software update. If it was a hardware issue I would understand. Yet the fact Amazon, Youtube, etc can continuously update their Apps to accomodate for my Smart TV shows their true motives.
Also, the article from 2017 was referencing what Vizio was doing with its customers information. I even remember getting that notice on my screen. I’m going to be frank. I’m not going to replace my TVs every year. That’s insane. 3 1/2 years is not old in the slightest. That’s like saying we all should of got a 3D TV when they came out & all TVs that dont support 3D should not have functioning Apps. That’s not rational. Imagine if your Mac or Windows PC got a notice that it cant run any future updates because it was 2 to 3 years old & all current features would cease to function. That would be insane now wouldn’t it?.
Plex has been shilling the idea of using Google Chromecast on so many platforms that its obvious why they are forcing this on ppl.
I’m saying this right now. If another service be it Mezzmo or whomever comes out with a good user interface & functional app. Best believe people will be switching over.
Now that you told me there was an even newer version. I just now ordered it. Being like a fool I ordered the 3rd Generation one for 40 bucks. Thinking it was the latest model. Then looked up what you mentioned and realized that version of Chromecast with Google TV was only 50 bucks on Best Buy. Tomato smacks face as I look at wasted money. Probably will just gift the other one’s I ordered to someone else; since I got the one you just mentoned.
Also, I looked at it and wasnt that impressed. Yet just got the one you referenced because I’m taking no chances anymore.
If you haven’t opened the 3rd generation Chromecast, it can most likely be returned.
Your set came out in January of 2016, so if it is 3.5 years old it sounds like you bought it after it had already been out for a year or more.
From what I gather the older sets operating systems do not support the newer versions of Transport Layer Security (TLS) and that is why support is being dropped.
I will be ordering the Chromecast with Google TV along with the wired network adapter for an additional $20 as I have Ethernet at both of my TVs.
I like the Vizio SmartCast preview! A lot!
And I like it even more now that I’ve figured out how to turn the theme music off!
Pretty much like which I stated before which falls on a Security Issue. To which is a software issue that should be resolved on their end. Not ours. Being I own a few dedicated servers & always recieve patches to update the software in order to prevent future security risks/concerns. Feels like they couldn’t be bothered with it & this was a great excuse to push Chromecast on people. Given no other service/app is having an issue with this so called “Security Risk”.
If I have any issues with this I’m just going to get a newer TV & gift the things I just purchased. Even though this whole experience has been against my best interest.
Plex can not make your TV more secure on “their” end. It would require a OS (firmware) update to your Vizio TV.
It looks like your Vizio D50-D1 does not have SmartCast so it is not supported by Plex: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/ that page was last modified on: December 2, 2019
You are aware it has nothing to do with “My End”. My dedicated servers are not on “My End”. You adjust the security issue on “Your End”. Like every other company does. It’s not that difficult. The fact I was able to use it up to the moment I got off & then couldnt connect once I got back on means their server that supported my TV was still active for my set. It feels more like they manually restricted certain sets from accessing their App.
Yet I’m at the point where I dont care anymore. They screwed over countless ppl who systems & servers that dont have the firmware that supports the direction they decided to take. Even though I purchased the Google Chromecast. Earlier this morning I decided to purchase a Nvidia Shield TV Pro because I’m not trying to deal with this nonsense in the future. If all goes well with that. Well I have a few Chromecast gifts for a few people for Christmas.
It doesn’t seem like the issues you’ve mentioned here relate to the topic of Try out our new Vizio SmartCast preview but I’ll try to clear up a few things anyway
.
It does seem like your issue is due to the fact that your TV model’s firmware doesn’t support the modern security protocols that PMS now requries. It’s unfortunate that the TV manufacturers often use older technology in their firmware. It’s part of the reason I don’t personally rely on TV apps and use Rokus for most of my TVs.
The TV model you have is no longer supported, but even if it was, there isn’t anything we could do in the app to get around this restriction. This change has been a long time coming for PMS and the industry in general, and is also being made this year on all the major browsers and elsewhere.
For what it’s worth, Plex doesn’t prefer you to use any particular device. Chromecast, Roku, etc. have been mentioned in particular because they are relatively low cost solutions. The Shield is a great device, and I hope it works well for you.
In any case, I apologize for problems this change has caused you, and I hope things work out better for you in the future.
‘Enable Early Access’ is in the user options menu. If you want to return to the old app, select ‘Leave Early Access’ from the user options menu in the preview version of the app.
When you start the preview version of the app, you should be prompted to select your preferred server (assuming you’re already signed in). This will be used to add your initial sources (or libraries) to your sidebar. After this is complete you can the pin additional sources to your sidebar from other servers in the More menu accessed at the bottom of the sidebar (you can also remove (or Unpin) sources as well as reorder them).
Same issue with my Vizio E50 for the past week+ … I’ve been wracking my brain and resetting all sorts to fix it to no avail. It would have been good for Plex to send an announcement out about this @ruuk. In any case, I guess it’s time for a new TV.
They made an announcement on September 2nd: Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices
