That purple icon in the top right is the firefox “Private mode” and I cannot confirm I actively signed out of other sessions. I will try again making sure I log out of other sessions.
I do find it odd that my PMS at home on my Win10 PC (with pretty much identical content) is 186MB in size, while the Linux server shows 308KB. Isn’t something wrong with my database? Like I said, the table “directories” is empty on the server, but when I log in to the Linux server… I see all the media and metadata.
EDIT:
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
This file at this path is incomplete on my server, and missing data. I went to the old server and went to Manage>>Troubleshooting>>Download Database and inspected this file… it was much larger and appears to include the data missing at the above path.
EDIT2
I stopped PMS Service, replaced the db, chown’d it to plex:plex - started the PMS Service, page loaded and looks like it’s working.
From what you describe, the move was not successful.
This segment
sh-4.2# du -chs *
7.1M Library
8.0M Library.first-try
3.4G Library-xxx
3.4G total
which should be the Library directory AFTER extracting the tar (?) should not be 7.1 MB. 7 MB is an empty PMS installation size.
If you see also… from the running/old linux server:
[root@plex ~]# cd /var/lib/plexmediaserver
[root@plex plexmediaserver]# service plexmediaserver stop
[root@plex plexmediaserver]# tar cf /home/PlexLibrary.tar ./Library
[root@plex plexmediaserver]# du -chs *
7.2M Library
7.2M total
This is what is on it, that I’ve been watching media on, even right now… I still see my entire library… my metadata… it’s there… but the path shows otherwise
This is that server…

(still unclaimed from before)
Now I do have the database loaded… the libraries show up and play, just lost all the posters/artwork. The text metadata is all present. Is there an easy fix to restore the metadata?
I might just keep trying until I have this perfect, clearly I had issues with my old install that were not apparent until I tried to move it.
I am trying to understand where the 3.4 GB information came from.
It would seem to me you want all that information (which should include posters).
I am not understanding how the old server had 7MB. Had you previously moved the metadata (APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR ) ?
the 3.4GB came from, last night while I was working on restoring the old library, I gave up for the night and just told it to start re-adding libraries.
Today when I looked I wasn’t even halfway done with my entire library… so I cancelled the scan and shut down the new server. At this point, the database was 3.4GB
I am not sure what the (APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR ) is, but I’m looking into that now.
Yes, Environment="PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR=/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support"
was moved every other time I tried to migrate the old server libraries to the new one, but this time I just used a copy of the database I got from the web interface, as it differed from the one in the path
Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver
I’m fairly certain I have other issues, but you are welcome to join me in a call on discord or something, and look at my screen or even remote in to peek
