Trying to organize Crisis on Infinite Earths for shared accounts

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058

Please move this topic if this isn’t the proper forum–there are a LOT of them here!

The Arrow-verse world of shows is doing a huge crossover event right now called “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. It will pull together not only all the current shows, but bring back TV, movie and animated actors and characters spanning all the way back to Batman’s 60’s TV show.

Additionally there were several lead-in episodes spanning 2 seasons of Arrow and Flash, as well as the Crisis episodes themselves covering 6 currently running shows. The easiest way to organize all these individual episodes to watch the whole story in order is with a simple playlist. But as far as I can tell Plex doesn’t allow sharing of Playlists to shared accounts who connect remotely to your server.

So… does anyone have a suggestion on a good way to organize upwards of 20 episodes spread out over 6 separate TV series so they can be easily viewed in order by remote-shared users? I just can’t think of anything.

Thanks!

I think a collection might be what you need in this case. As far as I know, they are attached to libraries, so if the library is shared the collection should be visible to the user.

collections work ok for movies, you can use the ‘sort name’ to control what order they appear (if you want them out of release order), ie star wars 1, star wars 2, etc.

Collections do not work as well for tv shows, which work out as episodes.

also, while you can create collections of the same name for all types of content, they will always be divided by library/type.

meaning you can’t simply ‘play’ a mixed collection of movies/tvs (and/or music).

playlists are also limited by type/library.

put simply, there is no way to order and/or play a mixed type/library list of content in sequence.

Ah, true. I should have actually tested before I posted.

So what if I just renamed the video files Crisis.on.Infinite.Earths.S01E01 (then S01E02, S01E03 and so on) and just downloaded a good pic as the “show”’ cover art… seems like a long way to go, but should work.

sure if you don’t expect any metadata from plex, you can name them however you want and put them in a misc video library

Are these episodes released in the right order, inbetween the regular episodes of the involved shows?
If they are tagged with the right relase date, you can get it working automatically: Watch crossover episodes of several series in-order
This method fails only if several episodes are released on the same date.

@S_Kinison

Above is not quite accurate.

Auto playlists (generated from filters) cannot mix movies and episodes, however a manual/static playlist can have episodes and movies together.

You would just have to keep adding any new episodes/movies manually to the playlist as they are released.

You da man! The “Custom Filter” organized by release date worked perfectly on my end, everything accross 4 shows so far are all in the right order to watch. Funny there’s a solutions page with Arrow-verse multi-show crossovers as the example… who knew I should have just searched for “Arrow crossover”, hindsight is always 20/20. :joy:

Now I just have to wait and see if my remote access people see things the same way, or if they’ll need to go through that on there end too. Hopefully it just looks the same on their end. Thanks much!

Since playlists cannot be shared at all, I’m afraid they have to create this smart playlist for themselves.
