Trying to re-link my WD MYCLOUD HOME following resetting my PLEX password

I’m new here and pretty non technical. I’m also lost. I received an email to reset my password following a security scare at PLEX. I duly did so and now can’t find the libraries / server on PLEX, nor can I find any place where I can re-link my NAS to my account.

I have a Dell laptop (and an I-phone) to access PLEX, but all the media files (photos and music) are on my WD MYCLOUD HOM. I installed PLEX in the first place to allow me to sort and access my media files.

HELP§

When you changed your password it placed your server in an unclaimed state. You need to reclaim it.

Plex’s systems are struggling to handle the load of password resets. This is causing problems for everyone. Suggest you wait a few hours for their systems to stabilize. You can then re-claim your server.

Do not uninstall/re-install Plex Media Server. That is not needed.

If Plex Media Server is running on your PC, go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web.

If Plex Media Server is running on the WD, point an incognito browser window at http://wd_ip_address:32400/web, using the real IP address of the NAS.

Hi, there are quite a few post about this now. I reset my PW and then couldn’t find my WD My Cloud Home where my films are stored in Plex. Eventually I went into ‘Do More’ in the web app for MY Cloud Home, in there is the Plex app ready to install. I clicked on that (even though it was already installed), clicked configure and after a while it all reconnected to my library (called Films in my account) all works for me now on all devices including my Samsung Smart TV

Thank you. I tried to “point an incognito browser window” but was refused access by my own system?
I somehow have a server on my laptop now, which I don’t use. Still can’t see my WD MYCLOUD HOME…

Thank you.

I can’t even find “do more”… I know I saw this when I started off using PLEX last year. Would this be on my laptop app, or my Iphone app?

It sounds like you inadvertently installed Plex Media Server on your laptop.

Check your installed programs and uninstall it if it is there.

Then go to Authorized Devices and if listed, remove it: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

The reason for using an incognito window is to bypass any ad blockers or other browser plugins / extensions. They can sometimes interfere with claiming a Plex server.

If Plex Media Server is running on the WD, then it should respond. At a minimum you should see the login window. Just like what you see with app.plex.tv.

  1. Look at your list of Authorized Devices: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms
Is there a listing for the server on your WD MyCloud Home? Resetting your password may have removed it from the list. This is OK. Just asking if it is listed.

  2. Verify that Plex Media Server is installed on the WD MyCloud Home.

  3. Verify that it is running. It is OK to stop/restart the Plex software if needed.

  4. What is the IP address of the WD? It should be 10.something, 172.something, or 192.168.something.

  5. Try to access the Plex server again. For example, if the IP address is 10.9.8.7, use http://10.9.8.7:32400/web.

Note: Do not uninstall Plex Media Server software from the WD. My understanding is that this also removes the Plex Data Folder. Your movies/shows/photos/etc are not touched. Just that any work you’ve done building libraries, sharing with others, etc will be lost.

Dear sir,

It seems I have the same issue and cannot make it work again.
I am really lost in your explanations. For example how could I know where Plex Media is running? (I tried both the adresses you gave in your explanation, but they didn’t work. I tried also entering the IP address I found using ipconf in the command but it did’nt work either :frowning: )

I tried rebboting the device twice.
I switched off and on the app in the MyCloudHome website.
I changed my password and could not find anywhere on the Plex website where to click to claim it again.

Could you help me with really simple step by step approach? Ideally I would like to have someone on the phone to make sure I am understanding the help indications.

Thanks a lot

Hi Pierre, Like you the guidance others have kindly posted and terminology doesn’t work for me as I am not that technical. However what I posted earlier in this thread worked for me for my WD My Cloud Home storage. I reset my password as instructed and lost my WD My Cloud Home storage from my Plex web account and on my iPhone Plex app. I tried all the restarting methods and none worked, all I could see was the basic Plex stuff but not my My Cloud Home where I store my films under a library called ‘Films’. This is the location where I previously was able to watch films either from the web app, on my iPhone Plex App or from my Samsung smart TV where the Plex app is located. Plex needs to be downloaded to the TV as My Cloud Home isn’t able to stream movies unless you install Plex on it. So I went into ‘Do More’ in the My Cloud Home web app where you can see all your files stored. I then clocked ‘Do More’,

In there, well in mine Plex is stored, I simply clicked on Plex Media Server, then configure and after a short time my WD My Cloud Home and my library of ‘Films’ reappeared in my Plex Webb app, my iPhone Plex App and on my Samsung smart TV, its worked ok since then.

I hope this helps

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I tried these steps before without success but I am trying them again.
The “configure” is not working. I got a message “an error happened. Make sure the server is available then try again”.

Any other things I could try?

Cheers

Hi FordGuy61, and thank you for your patience…

So, I was able to remove the Plex server from my laptop and I do see the WD MYCLOUD as an authorized device.

I guess this means the Plex server is installed on that device? Again when I tried to access it using the http:// and IP address, it denied me access…

I have no idea how to turn the server off and on again, from my laptop. I do see the WD MYCLOUD from my laptop, and can access all the files, including those created for PLEX TV (photos, videos, music…).

But so far, no luck on getting Plex to work as it did before. I use either my iphone or ipad to play music or videos through Plex…

Thank you for any further help you can provide.

Best,

I am in the exact same situation as NigelRigg.

Monitor this thread. It currently works for Linux. WD support is in the works.

If you scroll to the bottom and change Normal to Watching you will receive notifications when the thread is updated.

To all WD folks.

I have finished the first cut of the WD support.

I think I have it sufficient to work for all but more to do (test & confirm detection works)

The WD PR*, DL* and Ultra are available right now.

Work remains for the Android-based units.

Anyone?

I still can’t get my WD NAS directory back. Looks like you need to be very tech savvy to have a chance.
Does anyone know if there’s a chance the problem will be solved or should I look for another media sever app?

Still no luck on my side.

I have been away for the last 6 weeks and am only just getting back to this.

I can still not use my MyCLOUD HOME like it was intended, since the security alert in August. I just don’t understand how this can be and why more has not been done to resolve the issue.

Can anyone, anyone, help?

Thanks

I ended up having to bite the bullet and reformatted the MyCloud and re load all my files from back ups. Took me a week but I’m now back up and running.
Don’t think there will be any other solutions coming.

Good luck with getting yours back up again.

Well, wouldn’t you know. WD provided a software upgrade in the last couple of weeks and, hey presto, Plex was back and running!

All I need to try and figure out now is how to reconnect MyCloud Home to my Bose systems…
