Turn off Auto-Collection

I am struggling to address the issue of “collections”. Only one of my libraries is giving me an issue, a library of ‘Other Videos’. 2 problems - it creates collections with a single video each. And it resets the collections I’ve created, so a couple days later they are gone. I’m told to adjust a threshold setting to a high number, but I can’t find such a setting.
I would like a simple way to turn off Plex creating collections on its own. My other folders are fine, i.e. Movies, TV.

If you are suggesting to change a setting, please tell me how to find it. For example, I can’t find the threshold setting others have told me to adjust. To be clear, I would like this library to just be left alone, for Plex not to change any of my settings.

Plex will usually only automatically create collections for regular movie libraries (if enabled). There’s no online metadata for other-video type libraries… so there should also be no automatic collections.

Do you have configured that library to use/prefer embedded metadata and have those videos an Album tag set? Plex will create collections from album tags …

I don’t think so, but I don’t even know how to find that option. The videos doing this aren’t album music, they are mostly individuals playing covers of songs.
When I go to the Library options I see Scanner/Agent/Visibility options and then Collections where the choice is just to hide what’s in collections.

You can use e.g. mp3tag to check out the embedded metadata of mp4/m4v/mov files (despite the app‘s name implying otherwise). A file doesn’t have to be a song to have an album tag.

thanks. still working on this. I removed tags that were there, but then when I reloaded the videos, they came right back. I had deleted the videos off my NAS, then added back. I think the Plex software needed to be refreshed to clear out the memory of the tags. It’s been a few hours and still chugging along.

If any of the collections remain / the movies keep being re-added, you might need to perform a full Plex Dance.

I deleted the videos from my NAS, used the SW to rip the metadata that was on the videos, refreshed Plex metadata, and emptied trash. Added them back in, and made the 2 collections I wanted. 12 hours later, still looks right. I appreciate the help here. And $20 for that software is money well spent if this is fixed for good. I just need to add it to my routine when I add a video.

Update - 24 hours later. The meta data not changed as I wiped it out with mp3tag, and as soon as videos loaded, I locked the cells. But the collections I set up were empty. Collections with zero content. So I reloaded them this morning, but this is still strange. One more time and I might try doing the “dance”.

Since the last update, I’ve used mp3tag to strip the tags, and for each video, locked the title/sort title. I did the same with the collection folders I created. Nearly a week and all looks well. Again thanks for the recommendations and help. (FWIW, both Facebook and Reddit groups had no advice that worked)
