TV Episodes Multiple Versions (different formats/resolutions)

Plex Web 4.140.0
Apple tvOS: 18.1
Plex AppleTV: 8.41 (9404)
Plex for Mac: 1.105.2.269-12a32491
Synology NAS: ds418play running DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 7 0 - Intel Celeron J3355

Since Plex’s Optimization does not play well with captions (i.e does not include the captions from BluRays and MKVs), it was suggested that I make my own optimized versions via Handbrake. I see in the documentation that you can make multiple versions of Movies https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381043-multi-version-movies/, can this also be done with TV Shows?

See this thread:

If I understand correctly, this is how you would do it for different languages and different fps.

What I am trying to do is have different versions that are optimized… for example Plex created three optimized versions of each episode (Optimized Original Quality, Optimized for Mobile and Optimized for TV) this way it was going to pick the version that was best based on my connection. That is what I am trying to replicate but just with my own optimizations so that Subtitles and Commentary tracks are available.

I misunderstood. Thought you wanted to have completely separate versions of the show.

As far as I know, you have to let Plex create the optimized versions. You cannot create your own using Handbrake or similar tools.

This would be a great time to be able to speak to someone from Plex, wouldn’t it?
