Server Version#: 4.69.1
Player Version#: 4.75.0
I have recently upgraded from CentOS 7.9 to RHEL 8.5. To do that, I had to wipe out my system, and reinstall Plex.
For the most part, the installation went smoothly enough. Except now my TV library does not work. My video libraries work fine. But no matter what I do, when I try to view my library, I get the message: “TV” is empty, and I cannot view any of my videos.
I have checked the permissions. I have re-scanned many times. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the library many times. Nothing works.
To what outcome?
Are the files accessible to the system plex user (not just the top-level folder which can happen with some bad /etc/fstab conf).
Permissions, and ownership, are the same as in my video libraries, and my video libraries work fine.
Also, permissions and ownership are the same as they were when I was using Plex with CentOS 7.9.
This really does sound like a permission problem so lets check some stuff first. Sorry, if this is basic but we’ve no idea how familiar you are with linux.
When you setup your TV Library you would have given it a folder for plex to scan the media. Lets say this folder is /data/MediaServer/TV-Series. Can you provide a directory and file listing (ls -la) of this folder for us to review to ensure its correct. Plex recommends a 755 on folder and 644 on files for your media so I have included the commands below to set them in case your not familiar with them.
find /data/MediaServer/TV-Series -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find /data/MediaServer/TV-Series -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
I’ll also add can you let us know the location of your media. Some linux system assign special permissions to /mnt so its recommended not to mount your media in that folder as it can cause some weirdness.
Lastly, after all that if its still not working can you provide a copy of your full server logs after you have scanned your TV library so we can help debug as all we can do without that is guess ![]()
try to scan that library, and then post the debug log.
After struggling with this for days, the problem inexplicably seems to have fixed itself. I did not change the permissions, or anything else.
I did check the permissions. The directories are all 755 and the files are all 644.
I will finish loading my files from backup, and see if I have any more problems.
Cool. Could it be the inotify table? Worth checking anyhow… Linux Tips - #9 by ChuckPa
I think the problem may have been: I did not wait long enough before I started messing with it.
For some reason, on my newly built system, Plex, sometimes, takes a long time to load the files. I would say, several minutes. Even though there were only a few files. Maybe it has something to do with the file types?
Thinking something had to be wrong, I would start doing stuff like deleting the library, and re-installing.
I think because it happened with another library I copied over from backup.
