TV: Poster selection shows Backgrounds. Background selection shows nothing

Player Version#: 4.96.3 on Windows 10.0.19045 Edge

Not sure if this is a server or player issue:

In the Web Player, when I attempt to change the poster for a TV series, I am presented with the backgrounds for that series in the selection box. When I attempt to change the background for a series, I am presented with an empty selection box.

This problem occurs on both old series that have been on my server for ages and on new series introduced as late as 3AM today.

This problem does not occur for movies.

This problem occurs ONLY when editing a series from the Home screen. It does not occur when editing a series from the TV Shows screen.

To reproduce:

  1. Open the web player and connect to server
  2. Click on the Home icon
  3. Click on any TV series either in the Continue Watching list or the Recently Added in TV Shows list.
  4. Click on the Edit icon (the pencil)
  5. Click on Poster
  6. See Backgrounds, not Posters, to select from.
  7. Click on Backgrounds
  8. See no images to select from

The problem also occurs if you click on the Edit icon after hovering over a TV series on the Home screen.

Workaround: Edit TV series from the TV Shows screen, not from the Home screen.

EDIT: RESOLVED. Editing from the TV Shows screen is the proper way to edit a series. If you edit from the Home screen, you’ll be editing individual episodes, not the series.

You might be editing a show or season, not the series. Those two rows show individual episodes or seasons. Only series level get backgrounds (not episodes or seasons) and episodes don’t get posters (well, you’re picking a “poster” on the edit screen but they are landscape view and could look like backgrounds).

If I want to edit content starting from the Home screen rows from the web, click on the Series name:

That’ll take you to the series itself. If you have Plex setup NOT to show individual seasons if there’s only one season, you’ll kinda be in the season view automatically so might have to click up a level when editing some particular as well.

Hope that helps. If you have screenshots of what you’re seeing (particularly the selection of artwork screen) that might help clarify your experience a bit.

You are correct. I was editing from an episode selection.
