TV recording logs?

Hello everyone!

I am wondering if Plex keeps a log of DVR recodings somewhere or does it use the media files to keep up with what it has recorded?
I would like to convert the recordings to H.265 and that would change the file extensions from .ts to .mp4 … Wondering if that would cause the DVR to re-record the show again or not.
