I recently imported the Bluray remaster of Star Trek TNG - what’s odd is the first 2 seasons named each episode properly but the final 5 didn’t. All files are named in the exact same format:
star.trek.the.next.generation.s03.e01.mkv
And so on - the first 2 seasons that pulled the names correctly is in the exact same format - I removed all of the files and re-imported and again seasons 1 and 2 are great but 3-7 aren’t. What’s really bizarre is they seem to be named completely different than the file names too!
All files share the same format as above - but the names Plex is assigning are “Star.Trek.The.Next.Generation.S04E02.Family.1080p.BluRay.x264-ROVERS” - but that is NOT at all the filename, in fact I’m using 720p versions NOT 1080p. Does this mean the backend database is the issue or is there something screwy with my Plex install?
Thanks for any input - I really don’t want to have to go manually fix 100+ episodes…
Get Filebot or similar software.
So at least the space/dot between the season and the episode number should be gone.
The affected files are in mp4/m4v format, right? The ugly titles you are seeing come from the embedded ‘Title’ meta tags in your files. To mitigate easily, do this:
Go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Afterwards, ‘Refresh Metadata’ of the affected shows (not ‘episodes’, but the whole shows!)
The alternative would be to remove all embedded meta tags from each file and then again ‘Refresh Metadata’.
Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. As for the season/episode number look again, there is no space or dot between them. So basically: S01E01 and that’s how they are now, named exactly the same as the other “working” seasons.
That said your suggestion or re-ordering the server agents absolutely 100% fixed it - and it seems you were right about there being no proper meta data in the files, but what’s odd is there isn’t for the seasons that worked either. Regardless changing the agent order absolutely fixed it so I owe you one for sure!!
