My old Ubuntu 20.04 suffered a Gnome crash. While attempting to fix it I manage to make the situation even worse, so I have decided to cut my losses and do a fresh clean install of Ubuntu 22.04 and Plex Server shortly after.
After I have re-configured Plex Server I’ve noticed it’s not picking up TV show intros. I’ve tried using the “Analyze” feature but that didn’t work either. I’ve double-checked the settings but everything appears to be in order:
I got my Plex pass
“Generate intro video markers” is set to “As scheduled task and when media is added”
In Libraries, on Library containing my TV Shows the option “Enable intro detection” is marked
Please note that this feature was working perfectly fine on the older version of Ubuntu. I’ve attached the logs, just in case.
After adding a new TV Show to my TV Show Library it got analyzed and intros got picked up. When I play an episode of this newly added TV Show, the Skip into feature is visible and is working as expected.
Analyze did nothing to start detecting intos on the shows that I already had in my library but, after I ran “Scan Library Files” and then ran “Analyze” again it started looking for intros. Sadly I will have to click “Analyze” on each and every TV Show I have in my Library but it will fix the issue.
Maybe this behavior should be looked at by the dev as I doubt it’s by design but, as far as I am concerned, the problem is solved.
Somehow the documentation dropped the note that you need to have “show seasons” enabled and then while at the Season level of the program analyze to begin a manual detection.
Thanks for coming to my aid. The season setting was set as “Show”…
I’ve just tested and yes, you are right. “Analyze” needs to be executed on the Season level… Suddenly I don’t feel like watching all 15 seasons of Supernatural… Do you know if this is expected / by design behavior?
It is. But it works from newest to oldest, so it might simply not have gotten to the shows you checked.
(Plus, of course, the server must be running and must have access to the media files during the scheduled maintenance hours. There are people who suspend their server/network/media storage during night hours.)
Thank you for chiming in. I am more inclined to believe that there was something broken as my Plex server is installed on a simple Desktop which is always on and always has access to the network and storage.
I have manually started the Analyze process on roughly 40 seasons of 14 different shows (2 Rows of TV Shows on 1080p resolution) and a couple of days later when I checked, all episodes had their intro markers. This includes TV Shows / Seasons where I haven’t manually run Analyze.
Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that the issue is resolved however, I believe this “situation” should be investigated.
