I have about 20 shows I would like to add to the playlist, but I don’t want to watch each show before the next, nor do I want to watch them all mixed up. I know you can rearrange the playlist, but having 1000’s a episodes I’d like to add, that would be terrible.
So if I create a playlist, containing 5 shows with 10 episodes each, they playlist would get created as.
Show 1 s01e01
Show 2 s01e01
Show 3 s01e01
Show 4 s01e01
Show 5 s01e01
Show 1 s01e02
Show 2 s01e02
Show 3 s01e02
Show 4 s01e02
Show 5 s01e02
Show 1 s01e03

and so on…
Or if I had 5 shows, 3 with 10 episodes, 2 with 5, it would create it like

This has been mentioned on here a ton as well as on Reddit and on Twitter. For me, it’s probably the top feature I’d like to see for video (music has a lot of features I’d like). There are at least two very simple solutions to this problem that seem like they’d be easy to build into a future release (I’m not a coder, though so maybe I’m wrong).
Shuffle On Deck - This would allow you to make a playlist or pick a genre and just cycle through the on-deck episodes. Then you would be able to watch series in episodic order while shuffling the series.
Sort by Episode Number - If we had the option to sort playlists or libraries by episode number (ideally series episode number as opposed to season episode number), we could make a smart playlist with the shows we wanted, sort it by episode number, and add a setting to only show episodes that haven’t been played in X number of days. Then you could just hit play from the top and it’d already be a sequential shuffle.
The issue with sorting by S#/E# is that if I have a playlist with a show that has a 22 episode first season and a show with a 6 episode first season, it’ll be a while before I move onto the second season of that second show since I have to watch all of the 22 episode season of the first show. Of course, if this is the only way we get this feature, I’ll take it, but being able to sort by overall episode number would mean that second show’s 7th episode (S02E01) would appear right next to the first show’s 7th (S01E07) even though they’re from different seasons.
A request for the same feature exists already, and it has more votes.
