Long time plex user, first time feature requestor =)
My kids LOVE plex, I have all the old shows from my childhood available on it and surprisingly they enjoy them!
What would be a great feature:
Create a playlist of TV Shows, and each show either a) plays unwatched episodes or b) randomly chooses one from the show) or c) keeps track of the episode number you are up to, and plays the next one in order.
i.e.
Playlist = Muppet Babies, Reading Rainbow, Duck Tales, Fraggle Rock
What would happen:
It would play an episode from each one and then finish.
If I’m not explaining it correctly, I’m hoping to re-create the Saturday Morning Cartoon experience for them.
One of the big things I would love is to reorder playlists automatically. Example:
My wife and I watch the CW DC TV shows. There are currently 5 different shows, and there is a level of interconnectivity between them. It could be something as small as The Flash saving someone on Tuesday, and on Arrow on Thursday there is a newspaper shown that references that save. It could be as large as all the shows combining the weeks worth of episodes into a crossover event, where you MUST watch each episode in order to understand what is going on.
I would like to be able to throw all the episodes into a playlist, and then click on “Date Aired” as the Sort Order, and be able to watch through the shows in the proper order.
Another example with movies (and still comics):
Wanting to watch the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in order. I can throw the 15ish movies into a playlist, and click “release date” as the order and it uses the films theatre release as the data for sorting.
This would be a great thing. Zipper Order would be a great thing as well, as Joe has talked about above.
Example:
My wife and I want to watch shows that everyone else in the world has watched but we have missed because we watch way too many superhero shows. So want to methodically go through Breaking Bad, Lost, The Walking Dead. If it were able to zipper the episodes S1E01 for all three, then S1E02 for all three, and so on. If it smartly finished season 01 for all shows then started season 02, that would be cool, but also fine if it just continued even if one show was shorter in number of episodes.
Show 1 -S01E12
Show 2 -S01E12
Show 3 -S01E12
Show 1 -S01E13
Show 2 -S02E01
Show 3 -S01E13
Show 1 -S01E14
Show 2 -S02E02
Show 3 -S02E01
Show 1 -S01E15
Show 2 -S02E03
Show 3 -S02E02
Zipper might be tougher to program, but the ability to sort movies and shows by release date and other orders seems like there would be a framework to do that with a playlist.
If there is already a way, I’ll hang up and listen.
