Currently, when clicking on a TV Show library, in the default view of displaying a grid of shows, the Plex web app (Windows/Chrome) shows a count of the number of seasons for each show, immediately below the show’s poster thumbnail image.
If there are media files for episodes in 4 of the show’s seasons, for instance, the indication would be “4 seasons”. If there are media files for that show that are extras/specials, outside the show’s actually broadcast seasons (season 1 to season X), then the web app will show “5 seasons”, in this example, to indicate media files from 4 of the show’s seasons plus at least 1 media file from outside the show’s seasons (often placed in a “Specials” or “Season 0” folder).
A preferred indication–and thus the suggestion, here–is to have the indication be the # of actual seasons, with a “flag” to indicate that there is at least 1 extra media file for that show, outside the show’s regular seasons.
For example, the flag could be simply a superscript indicator after the # of seasons: e.g., “4+ seasons” (superscripted plus sign), or “4* seasons” (superscripted asterisk). If there are no extra media files, outside the show’s regular seasons, then the display would be as it is now: “4 seasons”.
Or, the text color/font/emphasis could indicate if there are any extra files: for instance, “4 seasons” in the standard text font & color if no extra media files exist, and either the # 4 or the entire "4 seasons’ in a bolded or italicized version of the standard text if there is at least 1 extra (outside the show’s 1-X seasons) media file for that show.
Note that this suggestion is to change the display of the # of seasons, as described above, but equally satisfactory would be to make the respective display a user-configurable setting (i.e., to show “5 seasons” or “4+ seasons”, in the above example case, at the user’s preference (user being the Plex media server owner, or any end-user, whichever the Plex development team prefers to code for)).
