TV Shows - Non-TVDB specials

Server Version#: 1.6.2.994-e05b79d6

I’ve learned from an article that doing the following adds non-TVDB listed specials to Plex:

“If an “episode” you have doesn’t appear in TheTVDB (e.g. DVD Specials or goof reel), place this content in the Season 00 or Specials folder named using s00eYY using a false “YY” number (e.g.: Heroes s00e99). The show will be available to play in a Plex App but won’t have any special metadata gathered, such as a summary.”

And this works, however, all those files are now named “Episode 80” and up. I’m guessing this is because there is no metadata.
Is there a way to force Plex to use the filename instead of the Episode number as the title if no metadata is found?

No, there is not.

Specials for Shows done in this way require hand editing.

Ah right, manually editing the files.
Too bad, though the alternative of not having them in specials would probably be worse

That’s the general thought process employed by users who’s options are severely limited.

You, Like the rest of us, get up to about episode 36 of Hand Edits and we all wonder if there isn’t a better way - there isn’t, but we wonder it.

Welcome to Plex…lol

and for clarity:

Not the files - the entries in Plex (the blank ones):

Like Episode 36 of Stargate SG-1 Specials - the same ones I’ve done at least 3 times, the last time ripped asunder by a Library Reconstruction (I have no illusions for the last time).

Thank you!
Quick followup, i see the server makes database/library backups every 3 days. Won’t that preserve manually edited and locked entries if something bad happens to the current library (like accidentily deleting it)?

In theory.

The fact is when you’re dealing with a full on Library Reconstruction sometimes a full on DoOver is quicker - and better for overall database health.

Special Edits can come along later - when I have time.
