I’ve done a bit of googling around this issue, but haven’t found a conclusive answer (at least not one that works for me). Here’s my setup:
Running PMS (latest version) on a physical Windows Server 2016 Core. Everything works great, I can stream, browse, do everything I need to do. Movie thumbnails work perfectly, but I don’t get any thumbnails at all for my TV shows.
Things I’ve tried, based on various threads I’ve read:
Removing the library and adding it again
Refreshing the library
Analyzing the library
Uninstalling and reinstalling Plex in its entirety
Completely disabling the Windows firewall
In addition to this, I’ve configured PMS on my QNAP NAS, which does download and display the correct thumbnails for TV shows. Problem is, I’d really prefer to have this working on my Windows server.
Can anyone shed some light as to why this issue might be occurring? I’d really like to get it fixed!
Incidentally, I previously had PMS running on a Windows 2012 R2 server (with a GUI) and it thumbnails worked no problem.
I’m thinking maybe something is up with TheTVDB agent. I just setup plex server on a new Windows PC running the latest version of the server for windows (Version 1.3.4.3285) and I’m getting the same thing Movies all got their posters set but none of my TV shows got posters.
Check the permissions on the folder appdata\Plex Media Server\Metadata\TV Shows. I’ve seen a few reports where the permissions were changed somehow so it was not writable, so PMS could not save the pictures that were being downloaded. Even if the permissions look right, try resetting them just to make sure it propagates to all the sub folders.
Sorry I’ve been away for a few days and only just got around to trying this. Is there a way to force the ‘clean bundles’ process? It seems to run on a weekly schedule but I can’t see a way to force it to run manually.
Ah, figured it out thanks to some posts in the linked thread. Bit tricky to find!
Anyway, no change, and here are the logs. I should say that I’m confident in the naming as all images show on my NAS device running Plex which is pointing to the same data.
Also, individual episodes have the correct metadata, but shows and seasons do not. All very odd.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in the tray icon issue. I’m running Server 2016 Core and obviously there is no GUI, hence no tray icon.
Tomorrow I’ll completely strip it out and start again in case there were some issues with the installation. Is there an official way to completely remove all traces of the application? By that I mean, a list of folders/registry entries to delete? If not I’ll run through the uninstallation process and manually remove any traces that I can find before reinstalling.
