TV slideshow (play/random) never works

Player Version#: whatever current version is on TV as of this posting.
This has been an annoyance for a couple years now across 2 different generations of TV:
Plex on TV does not actually do a slideshow.
If I hit the play or shuffle button at the top in a picture library, it just goes to whatever the first photo is… then nothing. I can left/right through them manually, but it doesn’t auto-advance… like a slideshow.
Clicking the Play/Pause button on the remote does nothing, no feedback on the screen either. Swiping up/down/left/right reveals no controls for “play” like it has on the desktop apps.
