TV watched status and date added being continually reset

In the last few weeks, several different shows have been losing watched status across the whole season, and showing up as added in the last 30 minutes when they were added months ago. I’ve tried the plex dance, reboots of server and clients, playback from several different clients on different devices. Nothing obvious in the logs, but I’m not sure what to look for. Happy to upload them here if anyone is willing to help out. Thanks!

Server is a qnap ts-464. Clients are Infuse and Plex app on Apple TV 4K, Chrome on a MacBook Air m2, plex app on iPhone 15 pro.

Server Version#: 1.41.6
Player Version#: 8.45

Disable “Empty trash automatically after every scan” or disallow your NAS to spin down the hard drives when idle.

Thanks I’ll give that a shot. What about those things is causing this behavior if you don’t mind my asking? Neither of them changed recently but this is new behavior.

I tried both of those ideas and have seen no change in behavior. Any other ideas?

Did you switch metadata agents back and forth, perhaps?

I did not. Are you suggesting that I try that?

Absolutely not!
It would be something that could cause the type of issue you are describing.

My only other idea would be to repair the database.

May I see the server’s DEBUG logs ZIP file?

  1. Restart PMS
  2. Wait about 2 minutes
  3. Download the Logs ZIP file
  4. Upload the ZIP file here.

If there are physical database errors, they will show here.
At that point, the type of error will determine if DBRepair can easily fix it or if a backup DB is needed.

Sure, logs attached. I appreciate the help very much!

Hello, just wondering if you’d had a chance to look at the logs I uploaded?

@ChuckPa is unfortunately currently not around.
There are no signs of database corruption in your logs.

That being said, it can’t hurt to try the repair tool anyway. If nothing else, it can at least speed up and optimize the DB a little bit.

I have the same effect from time to time if a mobile Plex player had been used and did not properly close the video file. The server marks is as being played, then the mobile client on next opening is telling the server that watch state is this or that (but not fully played).

Not sure if this is the case here, but other than that, I don’t have any idea.

Can you check the number of times these episodes have been played and does that correlate 100% with your personal experience?

Play history shows no plays at all, despite watching the episodes in question multiple times. The show also doesn’t show up in recently added on the library. I can only find it by searching for it. So strange. I’ve refreshed the meta data, removed it from the library and added it back, tried 3 different clients, server restarts, upgraded the server and still no dice. Super annoying.

I’m now having an issue where the show isn’t showing up in the library at all, where as previously I could find it by searching, but not browsing recently added. I’ve tried the plex dance with this show in particular but its just not there. So weird.

I finally figured it out. I have a tool that is adding media to a subfolder underneath my main library folder which seemed to be confusing Plex. After moving everything under the same folder and doing the Plex Dance, things are working again. I feel like I’ve learned this lesson before, hopefully I won’t be doomed to learn it again. Thanks for the help everyone!
