TVDB Poster, Banner and Background Metadata Issues. Help!

Hi anyone,

 

Been running Plex server/PHT pretty flawlessy for some time now, and suddenly ran into a bit of a kerfuffle. For some strange reason, within the last month or so I would say, the TVDB refuses to scrape show poster, episode poster, banner and background image data for my newly added shows. It seems to be scraping show title, plot, rating, episode details (text based information) as per normal, but is struggling with getting the images.

 

I am quite familiar with Plex setup options for agents, manual metadata searches, forced refreshing etc, and nothing seems to help (I haven't changed anything since i noticed it acting odd). In agent settings, the TVDB is given priority for tv shows metadata, and personal media assets etc are still all checked as lower priority. I don't know what has changed since the problem started occurring, so don't quite know where to start.

 

I can find and add poster art manually from TVDB, but kinda defeats the purpose of Plex. Another issue I have found is that I can't upload the banner art manually though, at all, another weird problem.

 

After some research, I tried changing my read/write permisssions for my Plex appdata directory but this did not help.

 

Anyone else experiencing this issue of late? Or have any suggestions?

So I looked at my TVDB plug-in logs and here is an output of the errors causing the issue. I believe.

Does anyone know anything about (content type 'application/zip' not cacheable in Agent plug-ins) issues?

have the same issue on windows. there are no such issue on linux box. version 0.9.9.7.429-f80a8d6

I also have this issue on Windows 7 64-bit, but I've noticed not all of the metadata is missing, it appears only to be posters / backgrounds etc (presumably the rest is being pulled from other agents).

Edit: I tried replacing the contents of the "TheTVDB.bundle" from the previous release listed on GitHub whilst the PMS was stopped and setting the files Read Only to prevent them being over-written, then starting the PMS again (as suggested in this old thread) but it didn't resolve the issue. Perhaps need to go to an earlier version?

Since the first call to "thetvdb.plexapp.com" works fine and all the URLs that contain "/banners/" all fail, I'm wondering, do you have any (ad) blocking software (or firewall/anti virus with this functionality) running on your computer or router?

This is normal behaviour, agents only cache text data (xml, html, etc).

You SIR..... Are a genius!!!! Or I am just oblivious to obviousness... either way, it was the banner blocking feature of Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 that was causing me issues. I am now extremely satisfied  :D  Thanking you. Oh, and it wasn't just blocking banner images, it blocked all TVDB images because all images whether they were posters, cover art, banners etc, had the word "banners" in their url's.

For those with similar issues and who also have Kaspersky, make sure to disable the anti-banner feature in Kaspersky settings, not just in Kaspersky anti-banner browser extensions!

Alternatively you can create exceptions for the TVDB website.

In Kasperskey Internet Security -> Settings -> Protection Center -> Anti-Banner -> Configure Allowed URLs, I simply added exceptions for the following:

 
Allowed
*thetvdb.plexapp.com* <- most important
*thetvdb.com*

Hopefully this helps others as well.

Well, I'm having problems with TVDB as well, just when i try to update a new entry, i get the following error in TVDB log:

- a firewall issue on your PMS machine or router

- an issue with a proxy server (if you're using one)

- a temporary issue with the Plex TVDB server

Well I tried restarting my router and i disabled KIS, and suddenly TVDB started working again, though usually it works without me disabling KIS, so I don't know if it was a coincidence or it had something to do with it, will keep following up and see if it's correlated or not.

Would anyone be so kind as to take a look at mine? I can't be 100% that it's the TVDB plugin which is failing but it matches the original post description almost exactly:

I have added the Plex server install location in to my AV exclusions list and my AdBlock Plus whitelist now, in addition to the troubleshooting I tried in the earlier post.

I too am also experiencing a similar problem.  I am running Avast (Free) Antivirus (no website blocking / filtering). 

The only thing that has changed on my machine recently was an upgraded version of my SSH server software.  This uses port 443.  It had been using that port for years as it was a requirement to get out of my works corporate firewall.  So unless Plex is trying to use something on port 443, I am not sure why its failling to load.

Have seen instances when the URL in logs can be opened and exist, but cannot be downlaoded if there is an AD BLOCKER that triggers on the word banner contained in the URL.

Response: [200] str, 16 bytes > 16 bytes is a bit short for a web page don't you think ? i would load the page on the same machine to check if it is 16 bytes long (if not firewall prevent loading from plex only) and if it matches the length what is says (banned / blocked) ..

Checked the URL, no adblocker in affect.  I use AdBlock Plus, in Firefox, however same issue in IE (no AdBlock).

Only Avast is installed, has no filtering or blocking.  No Windows firewall or anything else except NAT on the Router.  As for space, there is heaps of disk space, so I am not really sure now.

The issue where agents are not showing up is usually caused by a bundle file that got corrupted somehow. To resolve this, you can reset the system and framework bundles as described here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201119258-Resetting-System-and-Framework-bundles

Confirmed working, now to fix a bunch that have been missed.

Hi all, 

Having pretty much the same trouble as everyone else...  I've used Plex for many years now and not encountered too many errors, however I have just built myself a new machine to host Plex and act as a backup server to all my files and media.  It has Windows 8.1 installed, fully updated and Plex Media Server!

It has taken a few days to copy all my files over from my existing Plex Media Server, but they are now on this system and I am trying to get PMS all setup and running.

I stopped the other PMS to avoid any conflict and then added my libraries as normal.  It added them both and began scraping, the Movies came down fine and all Metadata, artwork etc is in place, the TV Shows however are not, they are all blank still.  I have tried a number of solutions found around the net, including remove library and re-add / uninstalling PMS deleting all Plex folders in localapps and reinstalling / turning off firewall / deleting the system and framework bundles...  No luck!  I don't believe TheTVDB is down as it has been nearly a week since I first began trying to fix this!!

The scanner is responsible for showing the files into plex. if they don't show, the scanner log [Logs/Plex Media Scanner.log] is useful

The metadata agent (TheTVDB probably) is responsible with getting the metadata and if not the log is mandatory [Logs/PMS Plugin Logs / com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb.log]

The files are showing there so there is no point in putting the scanner logs

You are missing metadata so the metadata agent logs is what's missing there... the same logs that are pasted along the thread... 

You didn't say if you tried what fixed the issue for the other person...  

What agent and scanner you have configured for your library, and attach the logs from that agent making sure the errors are showing... And when i say agent, you know, on a tvdb agent thread, i mean you know, the TVDB agent logs like everybody else in this thread...

I am a self confessed smart ass, but facts tend to prove you didn't bother reading the thread as you would have seen the logs are factually different, and at least i am helping. you did attach some logs at least so it's not that bad...

I can assure you that I have been through this thread / forum as well as many others in the last few days...  I haven't been reading a lot of the logs as tbh I don't really know what I'm reading, which parts mean anything and which parts are erroneous information.  
 
What I have done however is:
Fresh install of Windows 8.1 + Updates...  Apart from PMS, there is no additional software been installed onto my machine.
Checked Windows Firewall to make sure the exception is there.
Turned off Windows Firewall when the above didn't work
Re-installation of PMS 
Re-installation of PMS deleting everything PMS related in localapps > Plex Media Server
Made sure all TV Shows were named correctly
The Scanner being used is "Plex Series Scanner" and the Agent that is used is "TheTVDB"
In Settings > Server > TV Shows > TheTVDB it is set up: Local Media Assets (TV) - checked / TheTVDB - checked / Plex Theme Music - checked / OpenSubtitles.org - unchecked.
The Movie section of Plex is working as normal and I added an additional movie to it to ensure that "Update Library" is working correctly.  Which it is...
 
Don't take this the wrong way ZeroIQ, but the sarcastic and smart ass reply was uncalled for.  If you understood how long I have been trying to find a solution to this myself!

I would personally attach the logs as a file... otherwise it make it hard to read
you have a working movie scanner and probably the movie db as agent.

If you see files in plex for your TV library the series scanner also work. Since meta data is missing The agent is responsible

the issue is the Google search not working, but it doesn't look like previously posted firewall issues.

Did you try resetting the tvdb and system bundles? That solved it for the last guy...
