A) I have desktop win 10 computer “A” that runs a basic plex server setup. Movies and TV shows have had a lot of custom genre and collections tags set for the various media objects.
B) I have laptop win 10 computer “B” (same situation as for computer “A”) that runs a basic plex server setup. Movies and TV shows have had a lot of custom genre and collections tags set for the various media objects.
Both computers A and B have duplicated movie/TV show media objects. And some media objects are different for each computer.
How do I combine the metadata database of each computer plex setup into a single metadata database? And not loose any custom genre and collection tags? (Along with artwork and things like editing titles and directors)
There are some ways to tackle this issue, but they all cannot be done by a newbie without running into frustrating issues.
With regular movies and tv shows, your best bet is to reorganize your files and folder names so they conform to the naming guides for Plex. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
That way you actually don’t need to manually edit the items, becasue they will get mostly correct metadata automatically.
With actual “custom” media (whatever they may be), your only chance is to use this plugin on both old servers to export as many metadata as possible into .nfo files and ‘sidecar’ graphics files.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been finished yet.
Do a database backup for both.

Use my agent on one series and check every field is in the NFO and report if it doesn’t.
The agent has a setting to select the source when there is a conflict…
I had 1 report or some series not calling the agent automatically but OK called manually.
There was very low testing and no public interest in the tool…
As you can see in my agent thread despite being very useful the agent answer was underwhelming, and will improve upon github bug report only.
