I wanted to put two subtitles simultaneously, one in Portuguese and one in English. it’s possible?

I “think” the only way would be to use a subtitle editor and place both in a single file.
That reminds me of a movie I once attended in Vietnam. It was originally in Japanese and it had subs in Vietnamese, English, French and one other eastern language. It seemed that half the screen was covered by text. It would almost have been better to have a book projected on the screen.
If anyone wants to see what a movie with multiple subtitles looks like there is a section of “Good Morning Vietnam” that shows Robin Williams attending a movie where there are several subs at the same time. It is not a pretty sight. But it is useful if the attendees speak multiple languages.
A tool like “Subtitle Edit” http://www.nikse.dk/ should allow you to create a subtitle file that has both languages.
I’d really love to have this automated.
Watching with two subtitles is really an ideal way for language learners to get exposure and immersion.
Have there been any moves in this direction over the last 2 years?
