Two Uninstall Option (Standard vs Full Cleanup)

I recently ran into an issue where Plex wouldn’t let me reconfigure properly until I did a manual clean uninstall. The standard uninstall left behind registry keys and state data that caused problems.

My suggestion: offer two uninstall types.

  • Standard Uninstall (“I might be back”) → keeps registry keys, server state, and metadata.

  • Full Clean Uninstall (“I’ll never be back”) → removes registry keys (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.), %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server, and any stored server claim/state.

This would save users from registry editing and make troubleshooting much easier.

Thanks for considering — it would make reinstalling a lot smoother for many users.

I think a better option would be to offer a repair option in the un-installer where the registry keys and folders are deleted and re-created with default values. That would allow a quick and easy way to troubleshoot issues.
