Ubuntu 20.04 vs 22.04 for PMS in March 2023

Back in 2021, when I was setting up my currently PMS, the latest non-LTS build of PMS wasn’t working as well as 20.04:

Is there any downside to running Plex on Ubuntu 22.04 these days over 20.04?
I’m considering upgrading if there aren’t any downsides.

Thanks!

  1. You can remove ocl-icd-libopencl1 and beignet-opencl-icd (if you’re not using them for anything else). PMS now includes these

  2. There is no other downside for CoffeeLake CPUs.

I upgraded to 22.04.1 last August, (currently at 22.04.2) and while overall, I’m disappointed in 22.04 overall because it doesn’t perform as well as 20.04 did, aside from the issues that ChuckPA mentioned, which was as he said, resolved, I’ve not encountered any obvious plex-specific issues.

Thank you both. I’ll make the jump to 22.04 this month.

Heh. I’d like to move to FreeBSD. I prefer that, I think it’s faster, but comparitively speaking there is very little community or other support for it, and the last time I used it, there were more than a few OS headaches with some software.
