What is the consensus of using the official Plex snap app to install on ubuntu systems? How does it compare to apt installs? How do updates work? Can you update to PlexPass betas with the snap version? Any big caveats or advantages to consider?

The only gain, which arguably isn’t a gain, is the installation and control mechanism.
The data still goes in the same place as the mainstream package does.
There is still a username ‘plex’ created as the mainstream package does.
It is a completely different control mechanism having departed from the traditional systemctl start plexmediaserver style.
