Server Version#: 1.29.1.6316-f4cdfea9c amd64
A month go, I was forced to rebuild my Ubuntu Media Server from scratch. I used the minimal 22.04 desktop installation (I wanted the graphical front end) and built it up from there with everything I needed, including Plex. Everything was fine until …
Last night, Updated my system (via Webmin) and this morning, my Plex Media Server was failing to start. Digging deep into the situation, I both found what I think is the problem and created at least a temporary fix.
In the installation process or thereafter, both the apt version and snap versions of PMS have been installed. I have no idea how that happened (I sure I used apt to install it initially). My temporary fix was to disable the snap Plex service upon boot and delete it as an authorized device.
Here are the questions:
-
Can I use the Ubuntu software manager to remove that version (under source it is listed as “Snap Store”) without endangering the apt version?
-
Will that prevent the snap version from being automatically reinstalled upon next PMS update? In other words, is there a “snap version” of sources.list that needs to be edited?
3)And in case I should need to migrate to snap sometime in the future, can the database be migrated from one version to another?
